HOOFALONG, heavily punted recently at Beverley, came home a disappointing fourth on ground officially given as good to soft, although most on-track observers suggested conditions were very testing. Promising on his York debut previously, he definitely merits another chance. It is no surprise to see Tarara dropped to the minimum trip after being run out of things late on at Bath over 6f but Richard Hannon's Pivotal Movement looks a likelier threat after a promising Newbury debut. Gallena and Greenery merit respect.

Hello Stranger is an obvious eye-catcher as Tim Easterby plunges his Newcastle maiden winner into open handicap company while Amber Heights is interesting towards the foot of the weights after a cosy Bath success, her first career victory. She drops to 5f now though and WHITECREST is a hopeful alternative. Admittedly inconsistent, she's best at the minimum trip, likes ground with cut and has good claims on the best of her form. Cardinal and Ambitious Icarus also make some appeal.

The Gosden operation remains in exceptional form and LAHAAG may defy top-weight after a comfortable Yarmouth summertime success. He hasn't been seen since but the stable's inmates rarely lack for fitness after an absence and there's no telling how good he might be. Ascription gives the impression of having plenty more to come too and could be the one to take advantage should the selection fail to fire. The unexposed Border Legend and the consistent Mick Slates should also go well.

The market should prove highly informative here with a clutch of interesting newcomers unveiled by some leading yards. Elik, Kalispell and Permeate make most appeal on paper and this is a contest to take careful note of for the future. However, CUSHION sets a fair standard on her Goodwood third and she is the choice at this stage, although stakes should be kept most conservative. Alnawiyah disappointed last time but has decent claims on her debut third to Winsili at Newmarket.

MUTHMERA is taken to build on a promising Leicester debut, staying on pleasingly in the closing stages of a mile maiden behind Kikonga. Nasijah, half a length ahead of the selection that day, must go well but the Varian charge can reverse placings this time round if getting the run of the race. Beat Of The Drum also showed plenty of potential when sixth behind Great Timing in a typical Newmarket autumn maiden while Waila is an interesting newcomer.

Godolphin have won two of the last five runnings of this race and Last Fighter represents them here. However, he was only second in a modest Folkestone maiden on debut and will need to improve on that effort to score here. He may well do so but QANAN has shown a higher level of ability on his two starts and can go one better than his latest Wolverhampton second behind All Time. Starfield is a promising sort who definitely warrants shortlist inclusion.

EAST TEXAS RED was the subject of strong market support on his nursery debut at Yarmouth last month but seemed to run in snatches before staying on to claim third spot. He looks sure to be suited by this marathon trip for juveniles and offers punters who got their fingers burnt in Norfolk the chance to gain recompense. Topamichi has obvious claims after his heavy-ground Carlisle win while the consistent Magic Channel cannot be discounted from calculations either.

This amateur contest looks one for small stakes but LISSELAN PLEASURE is tentatively recommended in the hope that he'll put a disappointing run in selling company last time well and truly behind him. Previous efforts in low grade handicap company were decent in the context of this contest and he just inches the verdict from Kingaroo, who, unlike the majority of these of late, has shown he knows how to win. Follow The Flag and Elbow Beach have place claims.
