Defence Of Duress has shaped nicely on both of his starts so and is respected along with Discovery Bay who is entitled to improve for his debut experience. However, it could pay to side with one of the interesting newcomers. Raajih is shortlisted but the tentative verdict goes to LITTLE ROCKY who makes plenty of appeal on paper and represents David Simcock who is having a memorable year with his team of juveniles.

ELAS DIAMOND made a very promising racecourse debut when runner-up at Newmarket last month and she is sure to have come on a good deal for that initial experience so is fancied to go one better this afternoon. She sets a clear standard on form but there are are few interesting newcomers who could be anything. Susan Stroman, Watercourse, Mulaqen and Madison Square all fit into that category and they should be monitored closely in the preliminaries.

PLEA stepped up on his previous form at Epsom last time and he might have got much closer had he not lost considerable ground at the start. There could be a good deal more improvement to come from him and he gets the vote. Fastada posted an improved effort on her handicap debut at Leicester last time and it would be no surprise to see her take a hand while Fimias is mildly progressive and he commands plenty of respect.

There was plenty to like about HIGHLAND PARK's debut effort at Pontefract last month and that experience is likely to have benefitted him greatly. This son of Pivotal ought to have few problems with today's underfoot conditions and he is fancied to get off the mark. Protaras was narrowly denied at Windsor back in April and he is sure to be fully wound up for his return from a lay-off while Pekan Star, Room For A View and Weathervane are also considered. Arabian History and Tax Break are newcomers worth noting.

This prize could go to PSYCHIC ABILITY representing an in-form Godolphin team. He appeared to benefit from the application of the visor when making every yard of the running in a decent handicap at Sandown last month and appears to have got off lightly with only a 2lb rise in the handicap. The rock solid Play It Sam goes on any ground and seems sure to give his usual good running, while a comfortable victory in claiming company at Musselburgh latest will have done Bencoolen's confidence the world of good and he cannot be overlooked.

BARNET FAIR is taken to open his account at the fourth time of asking. Richard Guest's charge has improved in each of his three starts thus far and shaped as though a step back up to this trip was needed when a fast-finishing third over 5f on the all-weather at Kempton last time. Kieren Fallon is riding as well as anyone in the weighing room at present and it's interesting that he has been booked here. Soweto Star is entitled to have learnt a great deal from his debut fourth at HQ last month and rates a bigger threat than the more experienced Eland Ally.

Durham Express had Coin From Heaven 1 1/4-lengths in behind (second) when striking on bottomless ground at Newcastle last time and should be able to confirm placings despite a 3lb turnaround, but they will all have to go some to beat the hat-trick seeking JACK LUEY. He stepped up on a game Carlisle success when scoring readily over the minimum trip at Gosforth Park latest and, with this longer trip not a concern, he should be able to defy a further 5lb rise in the handicap. Superior Edge has been in cracking form recently and will have plenty of supporters of her own.

AVERTUOSO's recent improved efforts can be put down to the application of a visor (worn again today) and he will be well fancied to extend his winning sequence today. In both recent victories he has won with plenty in hand and a 6lb penalty is unlikely to be enough to stop him from going in again. Cardinal also has to shoulder a 6lb penalty for his win at Windsor latest and should put up a good fight while other last time out winners, Speedyfix and Wreningham, make up the shortlist.
