Not a lot went right for ADAYAR when sent off favourite for a C&D maiden, but he still offered plenty of encouragement and it would be no surprise were he to improve considerably for that experience. Glide Down and Marselan have both displayed ability and come into the reckoning, while newcomers King Francis, Alpine Stroll and Surrey Gold hold Derby entries and require close scrutiny.

Flying West is developing nicely and backed up her Wolverhampton triumph when overcoming trouble at Yarmouth. She is up another 5lb and while that shouldn't be too much of a problem, she is passed over in favour of ESPRESSO FREDDO, who confirmed his 25/1 Hamilton second was no fluke when going one better at Windsor. Robert Stephens gets him out under a penalty before the assessor takes revenge, and the move can be rewarded. Sword Beach has been running well in defeat and might do so again.

Fantasy Master has been a revelation since dropping down to the minimum, springing a big shock in a maiden here before returning to land a nursery. Imperium Blue also arrives on a hat-trick but he is 3lb worse off with HEY MR for beating him a length at York, and Roger Varian's colt may be able to take his revenge. Riffaa Wonder couldn't complete a three-timer of his own at Haydock but can't be written off, and the other two are also contenders in a trappy little heat.

ZAPPER CASS is more effective on the all-weather, especially the Southwell Fibresand, but that is reflected by his significantly lower turf figure and he looked ready to capitalise on it when runner-up at Catterick recently. Michaels Choice burst back into life at Bath when paired with Tom Marquand for the first time, and the partnership remains intact. Rasheeq has hit the crossbar the last twice and his turn shouldn't be far away. Afandem didn't get the rub of the green at Musselburgh and that effort is best forgotten.

Following his wide-margin Southwell romp in September last year, LAND OF WINTER registered six consecutive minor placings, including two over hurdles, so he certainly wasn't winning out of turn at Goodwood. He has a 6lb higher mark to contend with, but should be up to the task. C'Est No Mour regained the winning thread when dropped to this distance at Bath and heads a list of dangers that also includes Multellie and Chicago Doll.

CADEAU D'OR was a career-best third at Ascot earlier this month, relishing the step up in distance for Andrew Balding, and could take a further step forward now trying even further. The three-year-old wasn't far behind the 100-rated Tyson Fury on that occasion, enjoying the soft ground, and could have too much for Ispahan, who finished fourth in a competitive race at York recently but might need to be produced a bit earlier this time. Push The Tempo was fourth in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow last time and makes some appeal back on the level.

Brodie Hampson is one of the more experienced riders in this format and could steer recent Redcar third SEABOROUGH to success. The five-year-old has won at this venue in the past and should have come on for that recent effort, which was his first outing for seven months. Point Of Honour didn't shape badly in defeat when fifth at Newcastle last week and drops in trip now, while Stormingin and Diva Kareem are others worth taking seriously.

Thermal deserves plenty of respect after striking at Lingfield just over three weeks ago and is only 3lb higher now back on turf for Gary Moore. Country'n'western is better than what he showed over C&D last time out and could bounce back after being dropped 2lb, but this can go the way of Mick Easterby and CONTRAST. Second on three of his last four starts, the six-year-old will enjoy these conditions and wouldn't be winning out of turn under Rosie Howarth.
