It's tough to get away from ARTLESS who handled this sort of ground perfectly when winning at Hexham in October and who steps back in class after taking on some smart types in her final start at Wetherby the following month. She is likely to have most to fear from Buffy, who is bidding to win this race again after scoring a clear-cut victory 12 months ago, although Irish raider Hi Density ticks a lot of boxes and will also be in the shake-up.

If Artless wins the opener, no doubt there will be extra interest in General Ledger completing a stable double and this bumper winner has run well enough in his five hurdle races to date, including a third on this course last time, to suggest he will be a leading contender. However, this could well be a great opportunity for EGERMYSTER, who did not make his hurdles bow until last month and has run well at Kelso and Sedgefield. A first-time visor may just be the key to success. Norminster looks the pick of the remainder.

Although he has yet to win over fences and has been pulled up three times in seven starts, there is no doubt that when things fall his way IT'S BLUE CHIP does have the ability to win a race of this nature. The visor seemed to have a beneficial effect at Towcester last time and, if it works for a second time, this could be his day. Willing Weasel is another long-distance traveller who comes here after an encouraging chasing bow at Bangor a couple of weeks ago and can prove a real threat, while Garleton can make the most of his low weight to get into the argument.

My Arch continues to run very well and should be bang there again, but the handicapper is doing him no favours and another 5lb rise means he has now gone up 13lb since his win at Newcastle in March. It is likely that he will again find one or two to beat him and the one with the best credentials looks to be GLAMIS CASTLE, who has been running in decent company in Ireland and has shown enough ability to suggest that he is nicely handicapped here. Dalawan probably needs heavy ground at Ayr these days.

If GOOD OLD DAYS shows the form which brought a victory on similar ground at Ludlow in November then he will prove very hard to beat as the handicapper has been slowly relenting and he runs here off 1lb lower than his winning mark. Stormy Lord does not win very often and, in a very tight handicap, is likely to fall just short again, but he can give the selection most to do. Hush Tiger, who found Marodima too good on this course last month, may be capable of making it into the frame again.

With most of his main rivals wanting more cut in the ground than they will get here, this could be a great opportunity for MR JACK DANIELLS to supplement last month's Sedgefield win. Admittedly, the ground was on the soft side that day, but the best of his Flat form was on a faster surface and he ran well enough when third at Sedgefield in similar conditions. Another Burden has not been seen out for more than a year, but appreciates faster ground and can run well at a decent price, while Deedeetee is not without a chance if handling this faster ground.
