Not the strongest of maidens to open the card but PEGASUS PRINCE can get off the mark. The six-year-old has won three times on the all-weather and looks to have improved since moving to the NH sphere. He posted a decent second over 2m4f at Newcastle on his penultimate start and is expected to appreciate the better ground this afternoon. Howard Johnson's Chicago Outfit has a chance having returned from a long absence to take second at Carlisle last month. He made a quick move to hurdles after two moderate outings in bumpers and must be respected with the promise of more to come. Apache Country makes his first start under Rules and his best performance in point-to-points came on good ground.

POSSOL backed up his fifth in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham with a fine third to Big Buck's in the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree and should be more than capable of seeing off his rivals today. The seven-year-old won over this trip in December at Doncaster and also landed a chase at this meeting 12 months ago. Soft Spoken Guy won over 2m7f at Kelso 10 days ago and appeared to have no problems with the longer trip. He remains open to improvement and should be in the reckoning. Meath All Star has won twice in three starts since the turn of the year but made too many mistakes in the conditional riders' event at Cheltenham last time, ultimately finishing down the field. The ground should suit here though and his trainer's track record speaks for itself.

Not the most competitive looking affair and LATANIER has a strong chance of returning to winning ways after finishing last of three at Market Rasen earlier in the month. Connections are persisting at 3m, despite his best form coming around 2m4f, and he could prove the one to beat if allowed to dictate at his own pace. Gordon Elliott's Barcardero steps back up in distance and has run well on a number of occasions in more testing conditions since the turn of the year. Diablo made an early blunder in the Topham Chase at Aintree and having done well to get round that day, he's not without a chance here if his jumping holds up.

Word Of Warning is looking to land a hat-trick although this is his first appearance since August. He won twice over 2m4f near the start of the season and finished second in a maiden hurdle here in July. Slight preference is for DRUMSHAMBO, who can boast two wins from his three starts over timber. He scored on his jumps debut at Bangor in February and regained the winning thread at Towcester late last month. His sixth at Sandown came in testing conditions and it was by no means a disgrace. Magnum Force won back-to-back hurdle races last May but will need to step up on his comeback effort at Aintree.

The Irish charge NEDZER'S RETURN unseated his rider in the Fox Hunters' Chase at Aintree but had won his previous two outings and looked a nice prospect in doing so. He could be worth another chance with conditions to suit today. Mighty Massini was travelling well up in third when he fell five out at Fairyhouse, he won in similar conditions at Downpatrick last month and is one to consider today. Brave Rebellion scored over this distance at Market Rasen 22 days ago and this quick turn around could give him a chance of following that success up. He seems to handle any ground and would be hard to rule out here.

Caulkin makes a first start in this sphere today following a decent effort in a hunter chase last time out. He scored prior to that in an Irish point-to-point and it will be interesting to see how he fares in this company. Slight preference is for DEVIL WATER who has been found wanting in his last couple of outings over this distance but may be more at home in what should be a slower ran race here. He's won on the point-to-point scene and his best performance over hurdles to date, a good third at Musselburgh in February, gives him sound claims. Ravensbill looked much better over this extended trip when turning out at Ayr last month and could go well again today.

Lucinda Russel's charge, DEEP SQUEEZE, returned from a lengthy absence to finish third over 2m4f at Carlisle on her first outing for his new yard. He is entitled to come on for that run and may not have to find much to get off the mark today. Leith Walk won off a mark 4lb lower back in February and she has solid each-way claims, while Top Brass ran well on his first outing of the year back last month when finishing a close second. The slightly better conditions should be in his favour and he is one to consider this afternoon.
