Gordon Elliott has won this race in two of the last three years and has another fantastic chance with the in form Manger Hanagment today, but COURT IN SESSION is taken to cause a mini shock. This four times point-to-point winner made a pleasing debut under NH rules when chasing home a useful sort from the Rebecca Curtis stable in a bumper at Uttoxeter 15 days ago and stepping up a mile in trip for his first spin over timber is sure to help this scopey six-year-old. What A Warrior certainly wasn't stopping when landing the spoils on his hurdling debut over an extended 2m4f here in April and could be dangerous to leave out of calculations.

Esporao, a bumper winner here in July last year, stepped up on a number of solid placed efforts when readily opening his hurdling account at Downpatrick 24 days ago and he should run well from the front end here. However, it is another Irish raider, REDERA, who gets the vote. Tony Martin's charge had been progressing nicely in this sphere before struggling to land a blow in the Galway Hurdle last time and, with much less on his plate today, he should be able to regain the winning thread. Those two look a long way ahead of the rest, but Jet Master was far from disgraced on his hurdling debut over C&D last month and could win the battle for third spot.

A cracking novices' chase which largely revolves around classy hurdler, CHAMPION COURT, making his chasing debut. This unexposed six-year-old finished last season with a great fourth in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham and the vibes coming out of his stable have been extremely positive prior to this first run over fences. This is unlikely to be easy pickings, however, and Astracad tops the list of possible dangers. Representing last years winning stable, he was rated just 2lb lower than the selection over timber and this switch to fences could see him improve. Blenheim Brook, another chasing debutant, hacked up in a hurdle race here some five months ago and will have plenty of supporters of his own.

What A Steel runs his race more often than not and warrants respect off 4lb higher than when narrowly missing out over C&D last time, but OSCAR'S BALLAD looks the one to beat. He couldn't have been more impressive when striking over an extended 3m here on his penultimate outing and possibly found the ground too testing when pulled up over the same C&D latest. Fitted with a tongue-tie now, he can land the spoils while What An Oscar represents the yard to have won this contest in four of the last seven seasons and, although not the most consistent, he would have definite claims if recapturing the sort of form as when second at Newbury in March.

An open looking contest where CADEAUX FAX makes plenty of appeal from the bottom end of the weights. Representing the stable who took this race in 2008 and 2009, he ran a cracker to finish third on ground that was probably too soft at Ballinrobe on Monday and, providing that race hasn't taken its toll, he should mount a bold bid under the champion jockey today. Sky Calling would have to be respected if turned out again following yesterday's exertions here while two times C&D winner Toshi faces his easiest task of late and could get involved where it matters most.

Philip Hobbs' only runner on today's card, The Disengager, won a hurdle race at Exeter on his latest outing in March last year (when trained by Jeremy Scott) and could be worth closely monitoring in the betting market for any possible clues now sent chasing, but it is STEEL MAGNATE who edges the vote. Although still a maiden from 16 starts over fences, he has been hammering on the door in recent months and could benefit from having the champion, Tony McCoy, on his back this afternoon. Adrianeo had the selection 1 3/4-lengths behind when winning over C&D in July and arguably bettered that when runner-up at Killarney most recently. He must be shortlisted.

Sir Johnson hasn't put a foot wrong in both appearances thus far and warrants the utmost respect in his bid to complete the hat-trick, but it's never easy carrying a a double penalty in this sphere and, in receipt of 10lb, PEG LEG could have his measure. Nigel Twiston-Davies, who won this race 12 months ago and is five from six with his runners in this sphere over the past five seasons, owns this nicely bred gelding himself and is sure to have him fairly wound up for his racecourse debut in order to perform well and attract a possible buyer. Lucia Bay made a pleasing introduction in this type of event at Kelso in February and is worthy of consideration on her return.
