ROYAL VILLAGE has been knocking hard on the door in recent starts and the son of Scorpion has been found an ideal opportunity to get his head in front for the first time over hurdles today. Petiville has improved with every start to date and he could prove to be the main danger to the selection following an encouraging second at Ffos Las earlier in the month. Coole Hall dead-heated for the win in an Irish point-to-point back in February and these connections paid 42,000 pounds for him subsequently.

OUR VALENTINA has made the frame in all three of her hurdles starts to date and the daughter of Shantou was a winner on the most recent of those occasions at Navan. Based on that evidence an opening mark of 105 may underestimate her and she makes plenty of appeal. This Thyne Jude has not been seen since she won over 3m here back in September but that form is very strong, given that the second won her next three starts. Others to note are Catchthemoonlight, Miss Maiden Over and Vic's Last Stand.

On all known form GAYEBURY should be very hard to beat this afternoon, given that it was only in January that the seven-year-old chased home the subsequent Neptune winner Willoughby Court in a Grade 2 at Warwick. He has since won a Pertemps Qualifier at Chepstow by 13 lengths and he faced a very stiff task in the Final of that series at the Cheltenham Festival last month, when carrying top weight. None of the rest can be completely discounted but Aintree My Dream and the unexposed Robbin'hannon are the pick of them.

Tom George has a solid 10-50 record here in recent years and won this prize last year with No Duffer. He relies on the first-time blinkered A GOOD SKIN this time and the eight-year-old looks to hold outstanding claims off a fair handicap mark of 131. Beeves is a dour stayer who should relish every yard of this distance, while Ballykan was an excellent sixth at Cheltenham last month and would go close if replicating that level of form, though he did fall at Aintree last time out.

HEART O ANNANDALE was heavily supported in the betting before another respectable third at Sedgefield last time out and this drop in distance should see him go well after the 10-year-old looked to fold during the last two fences 19 days ago. Doktor Glaz is a reliable enough form yardstick at this level and should go well once more, while Late Date has one of the better northern amateur riders booked in Joe Wright and his 5lb claim could prove invaluable.

A tricky affair which sees course and distance winner Baysbrown return to the Perthshire off a mark 11lb higher than that victory here back in September and another regular, Nigel Twiston-Davies' Allthegear No Idea, also returns to a track he has tasted success at in the past. Calivigny's handicap mark continues to tumble and is now back to a mark he has scored off twice in the past. However, preference is for LORD BALLIM who has racked up a hat-trick of Carlisle victories lately and can make a bold bid here as he looks to keep his winning sequence going.

GREAT FIGHTER was a likeable scorer at Ayr last week, when handing a well thought of novice of Dan Skelton's a five-length beating, and Jim Goldie's seven-year-old could be the one to beat here despite the 7lb penalty for that victory. Idder is dangerous off the same mark as his Musselburgh second while the consistent Sleepy Haven also requires respect and is a worthy top weight.
