URBAN HIGHWAY set some decent fractions when running respectably from the front at Thirsk on debut and should have learnt from the experience. The two-year-old faded into fifth, but showed enough to suggest that he would be winning soon and won't mind this drop to 6f. Camber caught the eye on his first start at Redcar and had his excuses for a poor showing at Nottingham last month, while Open Sea is an interesting newcomer for top connections.

MAKE A WISH was only second at odds-on at Brighton last time, though she didn't look happy on the rattling fast ground and should appreciate this easier surface now under Pat Cosgrave. The winner of that race followed up at Leicester on Monday, and this daughter of No Nay Never can open her account today. Zip is getting better with every start but could be one to follow when handicapping, while Hot Contest may prove best of the remainder.

Richard Fahey has won three of the last four renewals (including the last two) and saddles Mrs Hoo and Illusions here, although both were soundly beaten last time out and will need to improve to account for the unbeaten EESHA'S SMILE. She won with plenty in hand at Bath 12 days ago under a penalty after her Beverley romp on debut and has been found another nice opening here. Lola's Theme got off the mark at 100-1 last time and could build on those exertions here.

Sheepscar Lad stayed on well behind a nicely-handicapped type who has since followed up when fourth at Doncaster two weeks ago and seldom runs a bad race here, while Glen Moss is on a favourable mark now and ran a bit better at Haydock last time. Rolladice got off the mark well at Nottingham last time and there could be much more to come from him as a sprinter, but a safer option might be ALEEF, who was the one to take from the race when second at Thirsk recently and should enjoy this ground.

FRANCIS XAVIER made a successful stable switch from Hugo Palmer to Kevin Frost when winning at York earlier this month, a victory which completed a hat-trick. He's been raised 6lb since but is having only his third start over the trip so there may be more improvement in the pipeline. Dark Pearl handled the stiff 1m2f at Sandown well last time and could relish these conditions, while recent C&D second Mulligatawny is unlikely to be far away at the line either.

DESERT FRIEND won with plenty of authority on debut over 1m at Leicester and is expected to give another good account returning over the same trip, albeit under a penalty. Never Do Nothing took a step in the right direction when opening his account at Thirsk last month and could feasibly finish in the shake-up. The pick of the remainder may be Tribal Commander, who shaped encouragingly when picking up the silver medal on debut at Bath recently.

Queens Gift has a wonderfully consistent profile and should be suited by dropping back in trip judged by the way she travelled over 6f at Carlisle last time, while four-time course winner Round The Island and recent Windsor runner-up Harry Hurricane are others to keep an eye on. However, the vote goes to 2016 winner VAN GERWEN. Although 6lb higher than when successful two years ago, he proved himself to be in rude health when landing a 16-runner handicap at Beverley latest and another bold bid looks assured from his handy draw in stall three.

TROUBLE AND STRIFE has been in cracking form all season long, notching up three victories and several placed efforts, and she appeared to find another gear when equipped with first-time cheekpieces at Catterick on Saturday. The headgear is on again and, with Gavin Ashton's claim negating the majority of her 6lb penalty, she is hard to oppose. Refrain narrowly missed out at Chelmsford recently and warrants respect on his turf debut, while Lingfield runner-up Dance To Paris also has solid place credentials.
