FIRST THOUGHT finally got off the mark here recently, evidently appreciating the Polytrack surface at this venue, and a 6lb penalty leaves him 4lb well-in so might not be enough to anchor him following that confidence booster. Swan Street performed well at Chelmsford three weeks ago and must enter calculations, while chances are also given to Um Shama, who makes her nursery debut following three solid efforts in novice company.

The eye is immediately drawn to Mark Of Approval, who dotted up in a Southwell maiden in May last year and boasts a rating of 90, but hasn't been seen for 507 days. The son of Lemon Drop Kid may just need this first run back, so preference is for YAJOOLL, who left a moderate Doncaster debut behind when finishing a close second at Pontefract on his seasonal reappearance last month and there could be more to come. Alfarqad is also noted.

STEALTH FIGHTER looked a nice type when staying on strongly to score over the extended 7f at Beverley on debut earlier this month and, with improvement expected, he can give these rivals weight and a beating. Kings Highway made a debut full of promise when second behind a decent type over C&D last month and he heads the list of dangers from Pinchpoint, who can show the benefit of having a couple of runs.

BUFFALO RIVER followed up his Sandown second on debut with a solid effort behind an enterprisingly-ridden winner at Doncaster last time and sets the form standard on those performances. The main dangers may be lurking among the newcomers. Name The Wind changed hands for 62,000gns as a yearling and could show up well for James Tate, likewise Sir Michael Stoute's Laafy, a $150,000 recruit who is a half-brother to a Grade 2 winner in the US.

Lady Madison overcame greenness to making a winning debut over this trip at Chelmsford recently and is expected to give another good account under a penalty. Narrow preference, however, is for SAN DONATO, who opened his account in a 6f novice contest at Haydock three weeks ago and arguably sets the form standard on that effort. Any money for Charlie Hills' newcomer, Scottish Blade, would also be notable.

Volcanic Sky possibly didn't see out the 1m6f trip when turned over at skinny odds at Chelmsford and dropping back in distance should help him, while El Borracho, narrowly beaten over C&D latest, and first-time blinkered Tiffin Top are others to note. However, preference is for GIVING GLANCES, who impressively notched up a Lingfield/Leicester double before finishing runner-up in class 3 company at Goodwood and dropping back in grade could see her regain the winning thread.

Spanish Archer hasn't done a great deal wrong in three starts thus far, narrowly denied a double at Newcastle latest, and he looks sure to be in the firing line again, but AUTUMN WAR shades the verdict in receipt of 6lb. Charles Hills' colt has improved with every visit to the racecourse, readily getting the job done at Goodwood when last sighted, and this looks a perfect stepping stone to bigger things. Elector is an interesting player having had wind surgery since he was last sighted.

FANTASY JUSTIFIER certainly doesn't help himself by regularly breaking slowly, but he arrives on the back of solid win and placed efforts at Chepstow and Bath respectively. Provided all is well following a scheduled engagement at Wolverhampton on Wednesday evening, another bold bid beckons. Athassel was narrowly denied over 7f here recently and is likely to be in the mix again, while Chica De La Noche should be suited by dropping back a furlong judged by the way she travelled but dropped out late on at Lingfield.
