Having got the better of reopposing second Battle Fever to make a winning debut at Beverley, PALM READER looks capable of shouldering a 7lb penalty. Declan Carroll's colt scored with something in hand and there should be more to come on just his second outing. The aforementioned runner-up is the obvious danger, although market support for newcomer Red Blue Point would be interesting.

Pure Legend recorded some decent form when trained in France and he's worth a market check starting out for new connections. Mr Swivell also commands respect after making steady progress in his four starts this season. Regardless, York winner NORTHERN EXPRESS is heading in the right direction and a 2lb nudge up in the ratings may prove to be lenient.

A runner-up on both outings to date, REGAL DESIRE could be set to shed her maiden tag. Brian Ellison's filly can be counted as an unlucky loser after being badly hampered at Beverley on her most recent start and she might be able to thwart Le Samourai's follow-up bid. The New Bay gelding put a lacklustre debut behind him when making all at Kempton, but a 7lb penalty does demand more. Brighton Beach completes the shortlist.

Rock Of England has won three of his last five starts and will rightfully prove popular again, but perhaps it's worth taking a chance on last year's winner MOULIN BOOJ. George Scott's gelding is still 3lb higher than 12 months ago, but there have been more encouraging signs of late and it's interesting that Kevin Stott takes over from a 5lb claimer. Rotokura Belle was an excellent third at York and needs to enter calculations as a result, and it would come as no surprise to see a big run from American Bay either.

IT JUST TAKES TIME was back in the winning groove at Beverley and given that he remains competitively handicapped off 4lb higher, ought to be more than capable of following up. This is tougher, however, and strong challenges might come from handicap debutant Asuka, who bolted up at Lingfield, and top-weight Yorkshire, although a wide draw will not aid his cause. Andesite didn't run as badly as his finishing position suggests at York and is no forlorn hope, and neither is Our Havana now sporting first-time cheekpieces.

Most of these have historically been held up for a late run, which could play into the hands of LUDO'S LANDING in this small field. Charlie Johnston's six-year-old drops in grade after weakening late on over further at Sandown, but if Silvestre De Sousa gets to set his own pace here he could win for the eighth time. La Peregrina has gone very close of late at Goodwood and Newbury so must enter the reckoning, along with That Darn Cantor.

BAY BREEZE looks the sensible call having won over C&D, eight times off higher marks, and on the predicted going. His Carlisle fourth leaves him a little to find, but he has been dropped 2lb and won't get many better opportunities than this. Fanjove travels north for Ed Dunlop and drops back a furlong in first-time cheekpieces which looks an interesting move if they rekindle his enthusiasm, while top-weight Northcliff is down in class and distance after a disappointing run in better company at Ascot.
