SPADER was a useful performer on the Flat for Ger Lyons and if this son of Jeremy can transfer that ability to hurdles then he would be very tough to beat today. The ground may have gone against Tyrell when he made his jumping debut at Exeter last month and this sounder surface should help his chances, while Don Bersy is another with very strong claims this afternoon.

Westend Story was last seen finishing a fine fifth in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham back in March and that effort entitles him to the utmost respect, despite that form taking many knocks since then. Similar comments also apply to Willoughby Court, although he will need to improve upon his hurdling debut performance. DAWN MISSILE was last seen finishing third in a 2m handicap on the Flat at York in October from a mark of 84 and the son of Nayef has been rated as high as 94 on the level. Others to make the shortlist are Dingo Dollar, Lough Derg Farmer, Silverhow and Tommy Rapper.

A thoroughly competitive contest for the time of year and it is very hard to completely discount any of these. That said, the preference is for STEPHANIE FRANCES, who has plenty of experience over the larger obstacles and she was an impressive winner of, an albeit weaker, Listed race at Bangor last month. Rock On The Moor arguably brings the best form to the table, having finished second in the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival earlier in the year, but she does find winning difficult. Desert Queen and Tagrita are also towards the top of the shortlist.

With most of these having some sort of question to answer at the moment, THE MUMPER just gets the nod despite the eight-month break. The son of Craigsteel has won two of his last three starts and he makes his debut for this yard today having been with Alan King last season. Paddy's Field was well supported on his chasing debut last month, especially as he may improve for the first-time cheekpieces. Barton Gift is entitled to progress from his seasonal debut and he is another to note.

NORSE LIGHT would likely have been involved at the finish but for an unfortunate fall at Ludlow last month and the five-year-old can take advantage of a reasonable mark to claim a first win since January. Magic Mustard stepped up on his stable/handicap debut to win at Fontwell four weeks ago and should continue to improve in this sphere before being sent chasing, while Baron Du Plessis remains with plenty of scope for improvement and should benefit from the services of Richard Johnson for the first time.

HIGHBURY HIGH remains in excellent form for connections and they will be disappointed if the nine-year-old doesn't launch a bold bid to maintain his 100 percent course record. He has a number of entries upcoming and Neil Mulholland must think that his charge remains well handicapped off a mark of 104. Mercian King opened his account in style at Fakenham last month, becoming Amy Murphy's first ever winner in the process, while Lord Landen is on a tempting mark now and cannot be ignored.

Harry Fry had a nice bumper winner earlier this week just a few miles away at Uttoxeter and it would be no surprise to see Paul Nicholls' former assistant unleash another potential star in the shape of AN SILTEAN. The son of Milan won his point-to-point with relative ease in April and having cost 68,000 pounds at the sales, is likely to have plenty of scope for progress now in the UK. Alan King is respected in such events and Cogburn is an interesting brother to stablemate Board Of Trade, who was successful on his first start, while Raising The Bar and Vodka All The Way both require market checks.
