HARDY BLACK showed marked improvement between his two runs to date and opened his account in a Polytrack maiden here in January. His subsequent absence of 232 days is a slight concern, but if the market vibes are positive on his return to action then he could be one to side with off an opening perch of 70. Mendacious Harpy has been soundly beaten off slightly higher marks the last twice and drops back in trip, so the main danger may be Bint Malyana, a consistent sort now fitted with a first-time eyeshield.

BEST TRIP left some moderate recent form behind when runner-up at Newmarket last time. Beaten by just a neck by a progressive rival in handicap company, Brian Ellison's seven-year-old is expected to improve for this extra furlong, over which he boasts winning form, and also the booking of a useful 5lb apprentice. Hadaj is proving expensive to follow but is capable of figuring at this level, with recent C&D scorer Zed Candy Girl no forlorn hope for a place if she makes a quick reappearance following Thursday's fourth here.

FLYING POWER bounced back to form when making all to score at Haydock last time and although he has to race off a 9lb higher mark here, he won off 1lb higher over this trip on Polytrack last year and is expected to remain competitive. Hunting Ground is another that has to race off a much higher mark in this sphere but his record on artificial surfaces (2-6) is much more impressive than on turf (0-12) so the 27lb discrepancy is justified. Recent Newcastle second Magic Art makes most appeal of the remainder.

GIVE US A REASON has shown improved form since moving into handicaps and is only 1lb higher than when beaten by under a length over 1m6f here last month. James Toller's four-year-old remains open to improvement and is expected to attract support, as was the case last time when she returned a beaten favourite. Kelamita has been raised 8lb for finishing a close runner-up over this trip at Kempton but has place claims, along with the consistent Rajeh.

Equally Fast left behind a moderate debut effort when second over this trip at Sandown in July but slight preference is for FIELD GAME, who went down by only half a length over the minimum trip at Southwell last time and is another that appears to be improving with experience. Zuzinia is more exposed than the aforementioned pair but has place claims on the back of her recent near miss at Ripon. Burning The Clocks was pitched in at Group 3 level at Goodwood and is another to consider now his sights have been lowered.

GO FAR is thriving at present and arrives in search of a hat-trick after back-to-back victories on turf at Yarmouth and Doncaster. Alan Bailey's charge is 6lb higher than for his latest win, but holds an entry in the Ayr Gold Cup and is expected to turn in a big performance as he steps up his preparations for Scotland. Desert Law returned to form with a fair effort at Windsor last time and can battle it out with Trojan Rocket, a course winner on Polytrack, for the minor honours.

FIFTYSHADESFREED looked on good terms with himself when scoring over the extended 1m1f here last month and is expected to be thereabouts over this slightly shorter trip, despite an 8lb rise. Flipping has been raised by the same margin after romping to an easy victory over C&D 19 days ago and his appeal is boosted further by the booking of Richard Hughes. The pick of the remainder may be Rober Cowell's three-year-old Vied, who was placed off this mark over 1m at Lingfield latest.

JUMBO PRADO scored with a little in hand over C&D eight days ago and is expected to go close off 5lb higher after a quick turnaround. Eddiemaurice is respected now back on the all-weather as he's been running consistently off 10lb higher on turf in recent months, without looking handicapped to win. Speedy Rio is unexposed on her handicap debut but races from 3lb out of the handicap, so a bigger danger may be Glennten, a course winner on Polytrack.
