The withdrawal of Irish challenger Blue Cross Boy makes life a little bit easier for BENEATH. Neil Mulholland's gelding finished a close-up third off this mark over 1m4f here a week ago and, racing 3lb well in at the weights, he looks the most likely winner today. Flying Applause rates pick of the remainder, but Resplendent Alpha is no forlorn hope as he steps back up in trip.

DRIVE HOME remains totally unexposed on the all-weather surface after just two starts and, having scored over the C&D last time, he can continue on an upward curve. The son of Mr Greeley has been handed a 5lb rise for that win but is open to plenty of improvement and appeared to win with something up his sleeve. Elsewhere, Lucky Dan has threatened a win and must be respected, while Ace Master also arrives in good spirits and sits handily towards the bottom of the weights.

This drop back into claiming company is expected to see CROWNING STAR recapture the winning trend. The lightly-raced three-year-old went close in handicap company at the Midlands track last month, when hinting that at a step up in trip would help, and should have the beating of these rivals with a repeat performance. Clean Bowled is feared most for the Alan McCabe team and could improve for the first-time cheekpieces, while Dr Albert is also given a chance under the 7lb claimer Darren Egan.

Copper Canyon has clearly had his problems for Stan Moore but is worth keeping an eye on returning from a 195-day layoff. However, HIDDEN GLORY is preferred as James Given's gelding has dropped a full 8lb below his last winning mark on the all-weather and hinted at a return to form when a close-up fourth over the same track and trip last month. Trip Switch arrives in rude health and is another one for the shortlist.

It's difficult to look past Roger Varian's AL FREEJ for top honours. The form of his two runner-up efforts thus far looks fairly strong and he wouldn't need to improve much, if at all, to make it third time lucky. El Mcglynn shaped encouragingly on her first start for John O'Shea over slightly further here in December and could pose the biggest threat if building on that, while Superplex's attitude may be questioned after a number of 'nearly' efforts and he must be treated with caution in the first-time cheekpieces.

GABRIAL'S BOUNTY has shown a liking for the all-weather with recent win and placed efforts at Kempton and, despite being hit with an 8lb rise in the handicap for his comfortable 6f success last time, he remains open to further improvement and could well follow up. Abi Scarlet gamely turned over a John Gosden hot-pot in maiden company at Southwell recently (that pair pulled 12 lengths clear of the rest) and makes plenty of appeal now sent handicapping, while Man Of My Word certainly isn't out of it on his first Polytrack start.

Not the strongest of races to round things off and LISSELTON CROSS gets the tentative vote with top all-weather jockey Luke Morris on board. Martin Bosley's four-year-old has run well in his three starts since fitted with the visor (worn again today) and should give another good account as he continues to fall down the handicap. Flow Chart warrants plenty of respect after his narrow defeat on the Fibresand at Southwell last time, while Bachelor Knight and Meydan Style also have claims.
