ANYTHINGTODAY ran a cracker in defeat in a competitive handicap at Newbury last month, going down fighting in third after hitting the front between the last two furlongs, and could be the one to beat in receipt of weight-for-age. Cambridgeshire fourth Chelsea Lad has been going well in handicap company this term and wouldn't be winning out of turn, while Big Country disappointed somewhat last time but merits respect on the rest of his form this year.

This looks a penalty kick for SHABAABY who was a deeply impressive winner on his latest outing at Doncaster when bolting up by seven lengths and he looks a sprinter firmly on the upgrade in a race where the majority look to have reached their level. William Haggas looks to have two potential improvers in Barton Mills and Island Drive, while Dance Diva and Staxton are best of the remainder.

C&D winner AL QAHWA advertised his well being with a solid performance in defeat at the Curragh and is entitled to improve for the fitting of a first-time visor. Nameitwhatyoulike bounced back to form when second to Flying Pursuit at Ripon and is well treated on his best form. Recent Ripon scorer Teruntum Star, Edward Lewis, a solid course second in August, the consistent Upstaging, recent Haydock second Stake Acclaim and C&D winner Golden Apollo are others to consider.

William Haggas' Awesometank got the better of Dark Liberty when scoring for the first time at Newmarket and they look set to play leading roles once again. Recent Beverley winner Buckstopper Kit looks the pick of Richard Fahey's trio but preference is for the Mark Johnston pair with BOOK OF DREAMS narrowly preferred to the hat-trick seeking Sunbreak. The selection has made a taking start to racing life and the step up to a mile can see the colt at his very best here.

AGAR'S PLOUGH confirmed the promise that he had displayed on debut by finishing a close second in a novice event at Ascot last month. A reproduction of that effort today would make the son of Dutch Art hard to beat this afternoon. Chief Justice and Epic Fantasy are others with strong form claims in this event, while Maghaweer is another to make the shortlist.

COEUR DE LION only found a high-class stablemate too good in the Cesarewitch Trial late last month and he will take plenty of beating if running to the same level today. Graceful Lady was about seven lengths behind the selection on that occasion but this progressive filly is 8lb better off with that rival now. Others to consider are Blue Hussar, Dalshand, Opposition and On Fire.

SOCIETY RED has some smart form in the book after beating The Statesman (won twice on the Flat and once over hurdles since) at Beverley last time out and a 3lb rise for that success is effectively cancelled out by Adam McNamara's claim. Alwahsh was unlucky in-running at the same meeting and could go well for a trainer that can boast a solid record here, while Bedouin and Jacbequick are other names to note.
