It is nice to be sitting on our outright bet on Grouchos Gregor - advised at 10/1 in this column - for the Coral 100 Champion Stakes, as he heads into Friday night’s final at Romford as the odds-on favourite. Kelly Wilton’s dog has been imperious so far and can continue his unbeaten march to the title with another display of fierce early pace.
Earlier on the same card, which is a terrific one, SKIDROE LADY (3) can land the opening heat (19:53) of the Friday Night 500 Standard for title-chasing trainer Maxine Locke. She has been running in very hot open company and should have the speed to lead up in this. With a fast break from the middle, she looks the one to beat and can hopefully secure some vital points for her table-topping, in-form trainer.
A little later in the third heat (20:33) of the same contest, ONTHERUN JAMIE (2) can win for the fifth successive Friday night at the London Road circuit. Dave Lee’s charge is in red-hot form, and with a slow starter on his inside and the middle-moving Piemans Goalie (3) in three, he looks well drawn. The son of Dorota’s Wildcat has a wicked turn of early speed and should dominate again with his usual quick start.
STORMY PAT (5) looks another well-drawn runner in the greyhoundhominguk.com Winner Of 3 Or Less Std (20:53) for trainer Katie O’Flaherty. He is the only wide seed in orange, and with the chance of crowding on the inner in this, he could well just scoot clear on the outer. The powerful black is capable of running close to 24 seconds around here, and he just looks a slightly better class than these rivals.
