Cartmel - Saturday 18th July 2026
NEWBROOK DIAMOND had run well in defeat multiple times prior to getting off the mark in impressive fashion at Wexford a couple of weeks ago. Based on that evidence, the Irish raider could be hard to beat once again. That said, Viscountess Nelson was only denied by a short-head when trying to follow up on her Perth win at Fontwell last time and Nicky Henderson's mare should not be discounted. The Warwick winner Rebel Tribesman is another with strong form claims.
ALVESTA did not appear to get home when third over 2m6f here in June and she is best judged on her previous C&D victory. Only 4lb higher than that success, it would be no surprise to see James Moffatt's mare bounce back to form. Made All was third when last seen over hurdles in May and could prove to be the main threat, ahead of Mr Lincoln.
ETERNAL ANGEL arrives here on the back of an 18-length success in a Uttoxeter novice hurdle 11 days ago and that performance suggests that a mark of 120 should be workable on his return to handicaps. Ladies Day beat the selection two starts ago but may struggle to confirm the form on these terms, while My Chiquita and Percy Shelley are others who merits consideration.
Seven of the last nine winners of this have carried 11 stone or more and that run many continue if CAUGHTINYOURTRANCE takes another step forward. Twice a C&D winner last summer. he returns to the smaller obstacles after winning over further here last time out when showing a willing attitude. Although upped 4lb, he is only seven and may have more improvement to come. Homme Public returns to hurdles and is well-handicapped on his best form though he is without a win since 2024, so High Dancer may prove the bigger danger.
KINGOFTHEGAME has a two out of three record at the track, with both wins over this trip, one over hurdles and last time out over fences. Although upped 5lb by the handicapper, he only ever does just enough to win his races and there may be more to call upon if needed. Star Turn was a length behind him last month and meets his rival on 2lb better terms but may have to settle for the same position, leaving Halfway House Lad and Roxboro River as others to consider.
GETAWAY JEWEL could still be up to winning despite his advancing years. Micky Hammond's veteran finished clear of the rest when narrowly beaten at Uttoxeter recently and another bold bid looks on the cards. Clean Getaway finished third over these fences in May and would be thereabouts at the finish with a similar effort, while Cuzco Du Mathan could have a say at this level if back on song.
PASSENGERONTHESHIP will likely prove a warm order. Sam England's inmate landed a five-timer with last month's comfortable C&D success and a 5lb rise is unlikely to anchor the progressive seven-year-old in this company. Sean Og was also successful over these fences back in May. He drops in class with a shout after disappointing last time, while Got Grey could prove to be the pick of the remainder.
Quite a decent novice, it's the Irish runner NEWBROOK DIAMOND who earns the vote with him having finally broke through at Wexford last time and not being expected to have any issue with the longer trip here. He can defy a penalty at the main expense of Rebel Tribesman, a Warwick winner last time and a promising sort in his own right. Viscountess Nelson is a fair mare and needs considering also - she should at least be in the first three.
Mr Lincoln is a useful dual-purpose performer with conditions to suit and he ought to go well off top weight, with similar comments applying to Made All, a consistent sort still on a competitive mark. The selection, though, is ALVESTA, a C&D winner two starts back who ran well upped to 2m6f here last time. Her mark is still competitive and the drop in trip is very much in her favour.
A couple of progressive types in here and it can go to ETERNAL ANGEL, who defied a penalty tried in a hood in a novice last time and looks capable of following up returned to handicaps. Secret Force is respected back hurdling with him having done well on the Flat since last seen jumping, but Ladies Day is the bigger danger. She's on a hat-trick and is open to further improvement now handicapping.
This can go to CAUGHTINYOURTRANCE, who has been in fine form over fences at the course and is respected off a 4lb higher mark back hurdling now. He seems sure to run his race and can prove too strong for High Dancer, a winner over 2m at Hexham last time and still looking on a fair mark stepping back up in trip. Roaring Home, another in-form sort, is one to consider also despite the fact she failed in her bid for a hat-trick last time.
Jeteye has been in decent form over hurdles but can't be certain to reproduce his best now back chasing. The selection is the bang in-form KINGOFTHEGAME, who has won his last two starts - both here - one over hurdles and one over fences and he's taken to defy a 7lb rise and land the hat-trick. Star Turn was just behind the selection last time and he ought to be thereabouts once more.
This can go to GETAWAY JEWEL, who ran a fine race at Uttoxeter last time, travelling well, and he rates the most likely winner of this despite his revised mark. Out On Her Own has been in decent form and rates the danger, although Cawthorne Cracker might do better this time minus the blinkers.
Let's side with PASSENGERONTHESHIP in his bid for a six-timer. A C&D winner last time, he's up 5lb but is in against largely out of form rivals and should prove too strong for main rival Sean Og who likes it here but needs to find more for pressure than he did when fourth over C&D last time. Lermoos Legend had excuses last time and comes in as third choice.
