Market Rasen - Sunday 25th October 2026
MOORE BRION could prove a useful recruit to the hurdling ranks. The convincing winner of both starts in bumpers, Olly Murphy's charge hails from a family of winning hurdlers in France and the son of Doctor Dino is taken to keep his unbeaten record intact. Kaldoun Des Rocs has shown ability in three starts over timber. He's a likely improver on his return to the fray having undergone a wind operation, while Military Cross and Running Happy are others of interest.
DON DANDY showed bags of ability on his three starts over hurdles in France. He's switched to Olly Murphy's in-form yard since returning the comfortable winner at Compiegne in April and is fancied to defy a penalty on his reappearance. Minella Buoy also debuts for his new stable having placed in all four starts over timber in ireland, including at Listowel last month. He looks sure to get involved, while See Blue switches from the Flat and is one to note on his hurdling bow.
Sure Touch has won three times at this venue, although he disappointed when last of four over C&D last month. He's not totally discounted with blinkers added for the first time, but TOMMY'S OSCAR makes more appeal. Ann Hamilton's tough and consistent chaser should be sharper for his recent pipe-opener over 2m1f at Kelso and he looks on a workable mark back over this more suitable distance. Triple Trade could edge out Mars Harper and Ga Law for third.
A small but competitive field with The Doyen Chief heading the weights as he drops in class after pulling up in a Listed handicap at Punchestown in May. He has had wind surgery since and is up to this level, but giving 22lb to PAPER MILL seems a big ask. The 10-year-old won a lesser contest at Southwell last time and is worth a chance in this better company. Livin On Luco is not out of it either but may have to settle for third.
Noble Recall could prove popular here after winning at Worcester despite his rider losing his irons, suggesting he was value for more than the official margin. Upped 8lb by the handicapper he will need more now, and a chance is taken on WALK IN THE VALLEY. The lack of a recent race took its toll when he finished fourth over C&D on his first run in 11 months, but he should strip fitter now and has more scope than most. Gambie Tiep might follow them home.
JUSTUS was most likely feeling the exertions of a long season when tailing off at Uttoxeter 143 days ago and a summer break may have revitalised him. A reproduction of his previous runner-up effort at Hexham would make the eight-year-old tough to beat and a sixth career victory may be on the cards. Although solid recent form is thin on the ground, Lightning Flash lurks on a dangerous mark, while Kourosh is a worth a second look on his belated return.
The market is likely to prove informative in a race chock-full of newcomers, with FRANCISCO ALVARES getting a tentative vote. A 75,000-pound purchase as a foal, Dan Skelton has already enjoyed plenty of success with his bumper horses this season and further glory may be imminent. Clos Du Mouche is related to several French winners and is feared most with Sean Bowen in the plate, while the Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies-trained Beau De Maine cannot be dismissed given their current strike-rate.
MOORE BRION confirmed the promise of his debut when completing a bumper double with a two-and-a-half-length victory at Uttoxeter last time. He arrives from an in-form yard and his bumper form looks very strong, so he is an interesting contender now switched to hurdles with further improvement likely. Kaldoun Des Rocs showed useful form in France but was below his best when third, beaten 22 lengths, in the Grade 2 Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow last time, having reportedly made a noise in running. He returns from a lengthy absence for a top yard and could have more to offer if back to his best. Military Cross built on his debut promise when finishing second, beaten 11 lengths, in a maiden hurdle at Sedgefield last time. A consistent performer on the Flat, he has made a solid start over hurdles and should be competitive again if continuing to progress.
DON DANDY improved again to open his account in a conditions race at Compiegne, winning by five lengths last time. He arrives from France as a progressive hurdler and could have plenty more to offer now joining Olly Murphy, whose yard is in good form already this season. Minella Buoy improved on his return to hurdles when finishing third, beaten 10 lengths, in a juvenile hurdle at Listowel last time. He has shown a fair level of ability in this code and is consistent, so should be capable of getting involved again. See Blue was below form when beaten six and a half lengths in a handicap at Goodwood last time, having been in good form previously. He returns from a break in first-time hood and tongue-tie, and this fair Flat performer could have more to offer over hurdles.
SURE TOUCH was outpaced when finishing fourth, beaten 11 lengths, in a handicap chase here last time, but ran to form and may be coming back into his best. He is well treated on his best efforts, and first-time blinkers could help him find extra for an in-form yard over a suitable trip. Triple Trade was comfortably held in the Grade 2 Silver Trophy Handicap Chase at Haydock last time, continuing a below-par spell. However, he remains well treated on his old form and the drop in class gives him a chance to bounce back. Ga Law made too much use of himself and failed to stay the trip when well beaten in the Silver Cup Handicap Chase at Ascot last time. He returns from a long layoff but he's a classy performer at best and this looks a more realistic level for him now if fit enough to do himself justice.
PAPER MILL improved for first-time visor when landing a handicap at Southwell by six lengths off a 5lb lower mark last time. The form has been franked and he looks a progressive, thorough stayer, and can follow up with blinkers added and stepped back up in trip. Livin On Luco lost confidence after a bad error and was pulled up in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown last time, but had finished second by a short head on his previous start. He generally arrives in good form, goes well fresh and has the stamina for this test, so could bounce back for an in-form yard. Rivers Corner was well beaten in a handicap chase at Plumpton last time and needs to leave that effort behind on his reappearance. He has been steadily progressing, with two wins from his last four starts, and likes to race prominently, so has a chance to be competitive again on earlier form.
NOBLE RECALL overcame a late loss of irons to win a handicap at Worcester by two lengths last time off an 8lb lower mark. He is a consistent performer who looks to have more to offer over fences. Walk In The Valley did plenty early and appeared to need the run when finishing fourth, beaten 11 lengths, on his chasing debut here last time. He is likely capable of better over fences and could improve with that experience, particularly on this easier ground. Gambie Tiep made too much use of himself before being pulled up in a handicap chase at Stratford last time, but he remains on a competitive mark if returning to his best. He has been absent for a very lengthy period, so fitness is the main concern, though he likes to race prominently and has form over this sort of trip.
CHARACTER TESTING made too much use of himself when finishing fourth, beaten 14 lengths, in a handicap hurdle at Sedgefield last time. He remains a maiden over hurdles but is in fair form and could be competitive if ridden with more restraint. Lightning Flash made mistakes and appeared to need the run when fourth, beaten eight and a quarter lengths, in a handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot last time. He is on a fair mark judged on his chase form and should come on for that outing, with an in-form yard another positive. Justus never travelled when finishing fourth, beaten 78 lengths, in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter last time. He returns from a break on a potentially favourable mark judged on his novice hurdle and Flat form, but needs to show much more on his reappearance.
CLOS DU MOUCHE is an interesting newcomer for Olly Murphy, having cost €65,000 as a yearling. He is a half-brother to three useful performers, all effective around 2m2f and beyond, so this extended 2m trip looks a suitable starting point. Murphy’s yard is in good form and he can make a positive start. Francisco Alvares cost £75,000 and is a half-brother to several winners, most notably top-class two-mile chaser Nube Negra. The Walk In The Park gelding represents Dan Skelton and is another newcomer who warrants respect and is likely to prove popular. Beau De Maine is a €56,000 purchase by It's Gino and has a pedigree that offers encouragement, being a half-brother to five winners, including Limerick Leader, who stayed as far as 3m2f. The Twiston-Davies team can ready one for a bumper, and he is not ruled out on debut.
