Nicky Henderson (25 February 2021): "He has had a difficult season as he started off going to Aintree where he finished up running in a flat race and ran really as they had taken all the fences out. He is not meant for bending races and he did finish in front of Frodon and ran really well. Being nigh on 17 hands he wasn't meant for those type of races. We hadn't intended running him in the King George because it wasn't a good track for him but there was too huge a gap between the Aintree race he ran in and the Cotswold Chase and he is not a horse who sits still. He loves racing, jumping and being competitive and he found the track sharper than ideal, and it was a good exercise for him. The Cotswold Chase was off, and Sandown took it on which was great but the ground that day was deep and Aidan threatened to creep into it but the first two go away. He finished a good third without getting a hard race and hopefully that has put him where we want him, and he seems in great shape. He is not a trailblazer at home, and he was good second in the Gold Cup last year and he wears cheekpieces which help sharpen him up. He ran a fantastic race last year and I don't see any reason why he shouldn't come back and run just as well. "

Nicky Henderson (12 October 2020): "We’re thinking of starting him in the Betfair Chase at Haydock even though Richard (Kelvin-Hughes) and myself are not sure it’s his track and we will go for the Cotswold Chase again with the Gold Cup obviously his main objective. He had a great summer at Trull House Stud and looks tremendous and even bigger than before. He ran a fantastic race in the Gold Cup for a horse with so little inexperience and jumped beautifully and did everything that was asked of him but just got beaten narrowly by Al Boum Photo. He could well improve again this season and it would be wonderful if he was able to go one better in the Gold Cup."

Nicky Henderson (17 February 2020): "All is good with Santini – last year he couldn’t run in the Reynoldstown as he has a flu vaccination and has no preparation for the RSA or racecourse experience. He hadn’t had anything and he ran a remarkable race. I have to admit he was not very impressive first time out at Sandown and nothing very obvious came to light. We cauterised him after that and there was no point going to Kempton for the King George it’s not his track and we had to wait. The Cotswold Chase was always where we were going to go from way back. He was very good in the Cotswold and I think it was a good race. I know that Nigel (Twiston-Davies) and Darryl thought Bristol De Mai was as good as he could be, and the ground was more in his favour than Santini’s but he still did it well and there would be a lot of improvement in him. He is fresh and he is well, and he did a bit on Saturday. He is not an Altior at home, but he is a very enthusiastic horse at home. He needs a lot of work and the more you get into him the better he is, and he loves his schooling. He stays and he jumps and the better the ground the better he will be. He should be a better horse this year as he is a great big old-fashioned chaser and he is hardy too. Like them all, we need a good run over the next three weeks."
