A much more truly run race than the earlier Debutante Stakes over the same trip, Florida Bay got to the three furlong point 2.11 seconds ahead of the leader in the race for fillies. That gallop suited the winner, a strong stayer who is already favourite for next year’s Derby, though little covered the first four and the runner-up was given an easy time late.

GIANT SEQUOIA improved on his maiden win and is likely to do so again given his trainer and inexperience, though he will need to if he is to win a Group 1. He led under pressure coming to the final furlong and found plenty to win in workmanlike fashion, the National Stakes is his next likely run.

FLORIDA BAY is a free-going sort and overdid the pace in the early and middle part of the race but was keeping on late when passed by the winner before his rider did not give him a hard time. It likely made no difference to the result, and he was reported to have made a respiratory noise.

GREEN DREAMER was dropping down in trip and found this too sharp even with the strong pace. He was out of his comfort zone from an early stage but stayed on strongly late and looks to hold a good chance in the newly upgraded Golden Fleece at Leopardstown, a track he has already won at.

NOLA SOUL may have needed this run, his first since Royal Ascot, and he raced typically keenly before keeping on late. The form of his Chesham win is mixed, but he remains open to improvement.

CITY OF DUBAI seemed to find this drop in trip against him after two runs over a mile, though it is possible he backed up too soon, just 15 days on from his Gowran run.

NAIL HOUSE appeared stretched by this trip and the strong pace. He travelled well for a long way and is worth a try back at six furlongs.
