Verdict
VINCENZO is tough, reliable and effective on the forecast going. Attributes that give him a solid chance of supplementing last month's Ascot success off just 2lb higher. Issam was a cosy winner at Kempton and a 7lb rise could be manageable if he's in the same form. Pleasington is an interesting alternative at the forecast odds. He is unexposed over fences/this trip and his second-placed finish here at the Christmas fixture reads well.
Expert View Verdict
Although not so much the case in recent years, Paul Nicholls used to have a fine record in this race and his TWINJETS looks to hold strong claims of defying top weight. He's been in excellent form this season, hammering Heltenham over C&D two starts back, and the fact he unseated in a Grade 3 handicap at Cheltenham last time probably did him a favour with this race in mind. At the opposite end of the weights is Koukeo, progressive at a lower level and making some appeal going beyond 2m for the first time as a chaser - he was a 2m6f winner over hurdles. He has a bigger effort in him yet and it could come here. Heltenham, who won this in 2024 and is weighted to get closer to the selection than over C&D in November, and Vincenzo, runner-up 12 months ago but higher in the weights this time around, are considered also.
