Champers On Ice has proved an excellent recruit from the pointing arena for David Pipe and the son of Robin Des Champs revealed a good attitude last time when landing a first hurdling success over this trip and ground at Newbury. Clearly on the upgrade, he should prove a tough opponent to overcome but CAPTAIN CHAOS receives narrow preference. Dan Skelton's gelding maintained his improvement with a fine second at Grade 2 level behind Label Des Obeaux at Sandown and the 4lb he receives from the Pipe inmate may prove decisive. Drumlee Sunset and and Hawkhurst have both displayed enough talent to also be of interest in an interesting novice hurdle.

De Kerry Man is a contender of note for David Bridgwater, for whom he's unbeaten after scoring comfortably at Fontwell and Fakenham last term. This represents a major rise in grade but he's certainly open to progress off his current mark and could be dangerous if ready after a 300-day absence. Beg To Differ looks fairly treated for this handicap chase debut and Perfect Candidate has strong form claims but conditions are a concern for him, so ALTERNATIF is preferred. He landed a Fontwell chase over a similar trip last time and has solid heavy ground form to his name in France.

A cracking contest featuring a host of promising novices, none of whom can be discounted with any confidence. Blaklion returned to form here last time but all his best has come on better ground, whilst something was clearly amiss with Minella Rocco last time. He is far better than that and remains of considerable interest. Volnay De Thaix is another yet to encounter such demanding conditions but should progress from a winning chase debut, as should easy Uttoxeter winner, Aubusson. Le Mercurey and Three Musketeers are also highly progressive young chasers but SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT could offer a touch of value. He really impressed at Carlisle last time, stays further and has already displayed a definite liking for the forecast testing conditions.

An excellent turnout for a good purse in which the youngest performer on show by some way, the 5-y-o MON SUCCESSEUR - can augment a most impressive success at Ascot when looking a chaser very much on the upgrade. Raised 10lb for that victory, he still looks attractively treated off 10-6 and a previous close second to Otago Trail on heavy ground also reads well. Village Vic was a stylish scorer here in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup for which he's been hiked 8lb but remains the most potent of threats. Little Jon and Tenor Nivernais also demand considerable respect in a competitive contest.

So Fine rediscovered form over C&D last time and has obvious claims of repeating the dose off an 8lb higher mark. However, the majority of his racing has come on much better ground and he's somewhat reluctantly passed over with that question mark hanging over him. In contrast, RONS DREAM has no such ground issues and clearly enjoys it here, having scored and finished a laudable runner-up on his most recent starts at this venue. Batavir looks weighted to go well for the Pipe team and Singlefarmpayment could be a lively outsider after hacking up in admittedly modest company at Southwell latest.

Last season's Ladbrokes World hurdle winner, Cole Harden, made a perfectly satisfactory return to action behind Thistlecrack at Newbury and should be spot-on here although there is the obvious concern about the significant drop in trip. Nevertheless, he's an accomplished performer on heavy ground and it would come as no surprise should he run the finish out of these opponents, talented as they are. Whisper was way behind the Greatrex inmate at Newbury and is much better than that but a chance is taken that TOP NOTCH will see out this trip. He's a classy performer who'll be at home in these demanding conditions and receives nearly half a stone from the top two.

Handling the ground is going to be paramount and previous experience could prove vital. Jam Session, The Blue Bomber and Miss Fleming all look useful sorts but none of the trio encountered anything like the forecast conditions when impressing on debut, whereas Golden Gate Bridge battled on well to oblige last time in the Ffos Las mud. The newcomers all demand a market check but CAPELAND looked promising when landing his only start in France (on heavy ground) and is taken to carry on the good work under similar conditions on this first start for the champion trainer.
