All eyes will be on Paul Nicholls' KNAPPERS HILL as the exciting three-time bumper winner makes an eagerly-awaited hurdling debut and with the master trainer issuing positive bulletins about his progress recently, it looks unwise to take him on even at cramped odds. For all that, both Dan Skelton and Nigel Twiston-Davies saddle potentially interesting newcomers in the shape of Pikar and Supasunrise respectively, while Colin Tizzard's Earth Business showed useful form when not beaten far behind Nicholls' subsequent winner Tulin at Taunton last spring.

Hard to rule anything out of this with all four novice chasers separated by just 9lb on official hurdle ratings. Ask Dillon was an early faller on his only previous chase start but recovered to enhance his reputation with a career-best hurdle win at Cheltenham in the spring, while Threeunderthrufive won four of his five hurdle starts in lesser company last term and is sure to have been well schooled. Preference, though, is for Does He Know and HONEST VIC who each showed enough to warrant a tilt at Grade 1 prizes last year and who both look big chasing types.

A revitalised GEORDIE DES CHAMPS bounced back from a lean spell to capture successive 3m hurdle events at Ffos Las early this summer - the latter on ground much quicker than ideal - and connections look to have found a viable hat-trick opportunity in this veterans' handicap considering he goes back over fences off just a 2lb higher mark. A solid case can be made for the likes of Indy Five and Sir Ivan off their present marks considering both have gone well fresh previously.

Paul Nicholls' Paso Doble, an impressive winner at Kempton on his second hurdling start, and Nicky Henderson's First Street, unbeaten in two runs over timber, both look scopey four-year-olds with obvious claims in this Grade 2 contest in receipt of an age allowance. But, if there is any value, it may lie with COEUR SEREIN who looked better than a mere handicapper when defying a 12lb rise in fetching style to complete a hat-trick at Huntingdon when last seen. It is interesting to see Dan Skelton pitch winning pointer Hidden Heroics into such deep waters for his hurdling bow.

Herbiers finished last season with an impressive win in a competitive handicap and he looks a leading contender, while Elham Valley finished a close third in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham and will have strong claims if he can reproduce that performance. However, a chance is taken on STATE CROWN after an impressive victory at Newton Abbot as he has the potential to make an impact in this contest if he can improve again.

NINA THE TERRIER made the best possible start to her career over hurdles when winning well at Warwick. She sets the standard and looks the one to beat, while Doireann and Runwiththetide are others for the shortlist as they make their Rules debut after showing promise in point-to-points. Mansoline is another to note as her last run was in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree and, although she was well beaten, it suggests that connections feel she has plenty of ability.

STRICTLYADANCER was well beaten on his last start of the season in May, but prior to that run he had some strong form in the context of this race. If he is primed and ready to go after his absence he could be the one to beat, while Cesar Et Rosalie disappointed last time but if he can reproduce his penultimate run when winning at Bangor he would be a big player. Jean Genie also needs to bounce back from an underwhelming display last time but is noted.
