A big field but only a solid case can only be made for a few, none more so than MILLANISI BOY. The son of Kalanisi chased home Unowhatimeanharry, who was 14lb well in at Newbury last time, that rival has since won a Grade 2 and was among the favourites for the Lanzarote Hurdle before his late defection. Maxanisi beat a subsequent winner here in November and could prove to be the main danger, despite a 6lb penalty. Never Equalled also won a good race recently and the ground conditions so not be a problem for him.

At first look, the eye is immediately drawn to Gevrey Chambertin, an impressive winner at Lingfield last month and partnered by talented 5lb claimer David Noonan, who negates the majority of a 9lb rise in the handicap. However, the value may lie elsewhere and C&D winners Sykes, Moorlands Mist and Awaywiththegreys, winner of the race last season at the expense of the reopposing Hansupfordetroit (second), are all taken seriously. KAYF MOSS is given the verdict, though, as he finished second in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las off this mark last season and the Grade 2 winner reverts to timber following a couple of mediocre efforts over fences at Exeter and Lingfield.

A typically competitive renewal, but it might pay to side with last year's winner EMPEROR'S CHOICE, who relished similar conditions 12 months ago and proved his well-being with a resolute success at Haydock on his reappearance. Benvolio was just a short-head behind the selection in this contest last term and his forecast price might prove generous now he meets his conqueror on much more favourable terms. Upswing had Cogry, Shotgun Paddy and Black Thunder in arrears at Cheltenham, but it wouldn't be a huge shock to see any of that triumvirate reverse that form here, and it is impossible to overlook 2013 winner Mountainous after a promising run in the London National at Sandown.

COO STAR SIVOLA turned in an improved performance when runner-up in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham last time and helps set the form standard on that run. Recent Cheltenham second Adrien Du Pont landed a C&D juvenile hurdle on his seasonal return and has the requisite class to figure. Hat-trick seeker Jaboltiski will relish testing conditions and should be thereabouts, while Forgiving Glance, a 10-length second in Listed company at Aintree last month, is no forlorn hope for a place.

Not the strongest of races and it may be worth taking a risk on BEREA BORU, who clearly relishes testing ground and he represents a yard who are more than capable of supplying big-priced winners at this meeting. Courtown Oscar and Wizards Bridge both arrive here in good form but have more on their plates from their current ratings. Subtle Grey bounced back to form last time and makes plenty of appeal from just 2lb higher. Heronshaw and Racing Pulse both have the ability to go well in a race of this nature, if bouncing back to form.

Otago Trail's win and placed efforts at Exeter read well and he looks sure to give another good account, while Going Concern might not be the hardiest of horses but he ran a blinder at Cheltenham last time. Fayette County remains unexposed, has a hood fitted and has Barry Geraghty riding for the first time, so it's easy to make a case for him, but FOURTH ACT edges the vote. He was only just beaten by a classy opponent at Ludlow and, receiving weight from all his main protagonists, he should be in the thick of things again.

MATCHAWAY arrived from Ireland having already displayed a fair level of ability and he confirmed that promise when readily seeing off six opponents at Bangor last month. Kerry Lee may well have got more improvement out of the seven-year-old and he is fancied to defy the burden of top weight and follow up. Canton Prince could be considered slightly unlucky to bump into a subsequent winner on his debut at Market Rasen and he should be in the mix again, while Ballymalin, a point-to-point winner, Cougar's Gold and Top And Drop add further spice to the race.
