Although thwarted in his hat-trick bid at Stratford, King's Scholar lost little in defeat, finding only a useful prospect too strong. Olly Murphy's charge should be in the shake-up once more, while Worcester winner Kind Intention is also heading in the right direction. That said, there are some interesting hurdling newcomers in receipt of weight, with COOLTOBECARELESS catching the eye. Unable to make an impact in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree, his previous exertions in NH Flat races suggest an event of this nature is within his compass.
Lady Bam was a winning pointer who showed up well on her rules debut, finishing third in a Hexham bumper, and she should kick on a bit now hurdling, but there are a couple of classier rivals in here in the shape of KING'S SCHOLAR and Cooltobecareless. We'll side with the Olly Murphy runner on account of him being fit and in form and having a capable rider claiming valuable 10lb off his big weight. A better long-term option might be Cooltobecareless, although his bumper form is nothing special. He's undergone a wind op since struggling in a Grade 2 event at Aintree in the spring.

With all guns blazing from the stable, SAINT JEANNAIS is unlikely to be lacking for fitness on his return from a 146-day break. The Twiston-Davies' gelding made light work of the opposition on his hurdling bow at Bangor in May and he may be able to repel chief rival Dutch Corner. The five-year-old ended his spring campaign with a respectable sixth in the Novices' Championship Final at Sandown and should put his experience to good use. Market support for point-to-point winner Hive Runner would be interesting.
Dutch Corner has plenty of experience and was in good form when last seen in the spring, so he could easily make a winning return, but he lacks the potential of SAINT JEANNAIS, who created a fine impression on May's hurdles debut at Bangor, scoring with tons in hand, and he could wind up in Graded company before long. The ex-Irish Sharu retains some potential and comes in as third choice on this British debut.

Having offered plenty of promise on his second-placed Rules bow over C&D, SEVEN KITES makes plenty of appeal on his return to action. The four-year-old is expected to have strengthened up for a summer break and a first hurdling victory may beckon. Little Lady Rock arrives on the back of a close-up third over 2m1f at Newton Abbot and, if seeing out the trip, she may serve the most resistance to the selection ahead of Locker Boum, whose yard is in tremendous form at present.
CROSSGALES KING sets the form standard and might return a fresh horse having last been seen disappointing in a Newton Abbot handicap when last seen in April. He stays well and has his conditions, so a big run seems likely. The main danger might be Seven Kites, a point winner who shaped well on spring's debut over C&D - he finished second but just shaped as though in need of the outing. Captain Hugo beat Serious Challenge in the Morebattle at Kelso before finishing a respectable second in the Scottish Champion Hurdle when last in action. He could launch a strong challenge on his reappearance, while Le Beau Madrik showed marked improvement in novice company last term and Dan Skelton's handicap debutant could also get involved. However, PIONEER PETE has the more recent form having defied a penalty when landing the odds at Stratford last month and the progressive six-year-old looks on a fair mark back in a handicap.
Last year's winner Gibbs Island returns from the same mark 12 months on and should again go well, but he's up against some unexposed, progressive types this time around with LE BEAU MADRIK top of the list. Winner of all three completed hurdles starts, including when upped to 2m5f on his most recent outing, he remains highly regarded by the Skeltons and is sure to be tuned up for this, with the drop to 2m not expected to be an issue. The main danger is the race-fit Pioneer Pete, twice a winner since just missing out in a big-field handicap at the Punchestown Festival back in the spring. COSMIC CONNECTION won three of his four starts over timber last term, culminating with a convincing victory over 2m at Sandown in April. Chris Gordon will likely have him primed for action and this extra test of stamina is expected to bring further improvement from the point-to-point winner. Lord Byron should be sharper for last month's Flat spin and a repeat of his narrow defeat in a Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival could see him in the mix. Killarney maiden hurdle winner North Shore is worth noting debuting for Dan Skelton's yard.
This looks really competitive with the standard set by the 4yo Lord Byron. He performed consistently at Grade 1 and 2 level as a juvenile hurdler and was clearly just warming up for this when finishing sixth on the Flat at Carlisle recently. He may well win, but is still a maiden and it's possible something could improve enough to topple him once again. Both COSMIC CONNECTION and North Shore fit the bit nicely and choosing between them isn't easy. We'll go with the Gordon runner who won three of his four starts over hurdles last season, including here over 2m, and the former pointer looks to be crying out for this longer distance. North Shore has joined the Skeltons from Ireland and has a ton of potential also, especially not stepping up in trip. The mare La Cote Fleurie is on a hat-trick and of interest also on this rise in grade, as is fellow Irish runner Le Moulin Rouge.

UNJEU ROYAL faced a tougher task at Warwick when last in action. A winner at Plumpton before that, Tom Lacey's charge has plenty of scope off his current mark and could make a bold bid back in this grade. Knight Templar is fit from racing on the level and won at Taunton when last seen over timber. He could make his presence felt, as could Opening Bid, who returns from a long absence but can race off a lower mark back over hurdles. Typhoon Warrior is another to note.
A really competitive handicap, Jaminska was Grade 2-placed at the course last October and is on a good mark potentially, but there are several potential improvers who could prove too strong, including top weight UNJEU ROYAL, who was let down by his jumping when last seen in May and has a bigger effort in him yet from a mark of 112. Victory Shout might be the biggest danger, the 5yo having been progressive last spring and returning off what still looks a competitive mark. Handicap debutants Typhoon Warrior, who represents a top yard, and Lully Du Houx, who might want further but still has potential, are others of interest.

FASOL has been slowly edging down the ratings and his latest third at Bangor in May suggests that he could play a leading role now just 2lb above his last winning mark. Codetalker is an obvious threat having bolted up at Southwell in March, although a 9lb rise is a slight concern. Others to note are Beau Quali, Step Ahead and Guchen.
Fasol is a solid performer, while Mostly Sunny could have a say for the Skeltons if tuned up back from 12 months off. Top weight Step Ahead retains plenty of potential but appeals as more of a chasing type, so it's CODETALKER who is the selection. Winner of two of his last four starts, he scored with plenty in hand when last seen at Southwell in March and still has a bit of juice in his mark. Calme Olympien is another to consider strongly as the ex-French gelding showed up well in his few starts for new connections in the spring.

Adba has to be respected having got off the mark in a mares' maiden hurdle at Market Rasen a couple of weeks ago. That said, preference is for GETAROSE, who had plenty in hand when scoring at Plumpton recently and is only 4lb higher on this occasion. Siorai was second that day and could make the frame once again, while Reel Orange completes the shortlist.
There should be more to come from the 3yo filly Adba, who is getting all the allowances on this handicap debut, while Siorai is conistent and again likely to be thereabouts. The selection, though, is GETAROSE who is coming off a breakthrough success in a small field at Plumpton. She might kick on a bit now she's had her head in front and she's taken to overcome a 4lb rise. Handicap newcomers Sheezer Diva and Burning Embers are contenders also for the Skeltons and the market may guide what's expected with the pair.
