Tonic du Charmil and Two Miles West both make the short-list along with Tom Sayers who could be ready for this stiffer test. However, if the classy NATAL is anywhere near his best he should prove very hard to beat. Paul Nicholls is more than likely to have left a little to work on but he's sure to be straight enough to do himself justice and looks the call here.

LIBERATE failed to live with Katchit in the Triumph but there was no disgrace in that and he can pick up the winning thread again this afternoon. Mobaasher is held in high regard but was well behind the selection at Cheltenham, although it must be said that he is far less experienced. If there is to be a fly in the ointment it could be Gwanako who is unbeaten in four starts over hurdles and one over fences; his powerful connections will know where they stand with him and the market should guide.

PETIT LORD is sure to have been well schooled and will be fancied to go close on debut; he's likely to be sent off at cramped odds but looks to have been found a decent opportunity and gets the vote. Vivid Imagination has stamina and jumping concerns to overcome, Bengo is far from consistent whilst Cannon Fire has passed up similar opportunities in the past. The Gangerman was still going well when departing on his chase debut here just over a year ago and could be the one to give the selection most to do.

The Hollow Bottom from the in-form Twiston-Davies yard is of interest receiving weight all round whilst Grecian Groom also enters calculations following his Fontwell win. Le Volfoni is better known as a chaser these days and may just lack the speed for this test and of more appeal is the improving BRAVE REBELLION. He has done all that's been asked of him so far and can make the long journey from Cleveland worth while by making it five on the bounce in this contest.

Tension Point has the benefit of experience which shouldn't be underestimated but he has a hefty burden to shoulder and of more appeal is FRANCHOEK who finished ahead of Evan Williams' runner at Market Rasen. He didn't hurdle that fluently but it was a valuable contest and he should be sharper now. There are some interesting newcomers in opposition and sustained market support for any of the more obvious candidates would have to be taken seriously.

Presenting Copper and the exciting Theatrical Moment (formerly with Alan Swinbank) are the first string's of their respective stables and are accorded plenty of respect. However, the nod goes to another Paul Nicholls French import in the shape of PERTINENT. He went close on his hurdling bow at Auteuil in June, an experience that should stand him in good stead here, and it would be no surprise to see him go one better here.

Finbar's Pi stepped up on his debut form to chase home Aya in May and should have more to offer now. However, the John O'Shea-trained CHEVY TO THE LEVY arguably achieved more when only just denied here last term and the 5-y-o gelding is taken to go one better. However, some powerful stables saddle some potentially smart individuals this afternoon and the market must be monitored closely.
