A wide-open contest in which preference is for the Paul Nicholls-trained HENRI THE SECOND. He didn't have things go his way at Aintree last time but he is a half-brother to the classy Enrillo and it would be foolish to dismiss him on his return to action. Chianti Classico is another not to be taken lightly, while St Patricks Bridge also merits consideration.

LEADING CHOICE was last seen finishing a respectable fifth in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham last November, but he had shed his maiden tag on debut at Ffos Las. A stiffer stamina test could work in his favour and he shades the vote at the main expense of Wideeyedandlegless, who makes his Rules debut. Great Heart'Jac switches to maiden company on his return to action and completes the shortlist.

FAROUK DE CHENEAU has been kept busy over the summer and finished a respectable second at Southwell last month. He has been steadily progressive and can improve further, while Manothepeople secured a double over hurdles at the end of last season and seems a big threat if ready to roll off a break. Aeronisi made a winning start for Evan Williams in March and should also not be dismissed.

GENTLE CONNECTIONS was highly tried in the Grade 2 Persian War here earlier in the month, but prior to that she had managed to rack up a four-timer and is likely to prove more competitive now returning to handicap company. Chloe's Court is capable on her day and ran a respectable race on her seasonal debut over C&D last season, so she could pose the main threat if ready to roll. Rose Of Arcadia makes the most appeal of the remainder now returning from a successful stint in point-to-points.

Karakoram and No No Tonic are both entitled to improve on their respective returns and are worth considering if conditions do deteriorate. However, KEPLERIAN is an interesting contender on his first start for the Fergal O'Brien yard and improvement may be forthcoming now the five-year-old is dropped back in trip. Well Done Dani and Sevenofus are others to note in a wide-open contest.

Stepney Causeway and Fern Hill may put their chase experience to good use but could be vulnerable to less-exposed rivals. Both Cap Du Mathan and YOUNG BUTLER strike as types likely to do better now tackling fences. Slight preference is for the latter, who is expected to appreciate the return to this distance and he won over hurdles here last season. The Paul Nicholls gelding was beaten at Ascot when last seen but he too ran well at this venue over the smaller obstacles and shouldn't be underestimated.

Kalpaga and Sarsen both merit plenty of respect in a very competitive contest. However, preference is for BUTTSBURY LADY, who fared as well as could have been expected when she returned from a long absence to finish a close-up fourth at Uttoxeter last month. If she jumps with more fluency, the seven-year-old could be a different proposition with benefit of that outing.

Moonshine Spirit marginally sets the standard of those with experience, but Bullets Hill is closely matched with that rival judging by their proximity to each other in a bumper here at the end of last season. From the newcomers, Hurricane Danny and Donnacha both merit consideration. However, preference is for ROYAL DEFENDER, who changed hands for 155,000gns after winning an Irish point-to-point in May.
