El Torbellino is slipping back down to a fair mark, likewise Kathleen Frances, while hurdles winner Reyamour is interesting on her handicap debut after opening her Flat account at the fifth time of asking when returning to the level in a 1m2f Salisbury maiden last month. Sugar Hiccup picked up a silver medal on her reappearance at Haydock recently, while ELIZABETH COFFEE ran on well for a good third in a similar C&D event off this mark last time out and, with a much better draw this time, she may be worth another chance.

With the David Simcock yard in flying form, it could pay to side with PINTURA. After accounting for the reopposing Imperial Djay (third), Kyllachy Star (fourth) and Dubai Dynamo (fifth) when scoring over C&D last month, he had to settle for fourth behind Imperial Djay when dropped to 7f here last time, but he tackles that rival on 4lb better terms today and will relish the step back up in trip, as well as his plum draw. Despite seemingly not handling the idiosyncrasies of Epsom too cleverly, Van Ellis stayed on well for second in a good 7f handicap on Oaks day and the extra yardage here should help Mark Johnston's charge.

Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning teamed up to land this race last year with Jutland and they bid for a repeat today with LICENCE TO TILL, who was beaten less than two lengths off this mark in a red-hot handicap at Epsom last week. An impressive winner at Haydock last month, he looks the value call against Stand To Reason, who narrowly missed out on a hat-trick over C&D off a 4lb lower mark latest and remains open to further progress after only six starts. Memory Cloth will appreciate the drop in class after his Listed third at Windsor.

Limit Up and Botanic Garden were separated by three-quarters of a length when second and fourth respectively in a 6f Ripon maiden late last month and they clearly set the form here, especially with the third from that race subsequently opening her account. They will dominate the betting, however, and there could be some value in taking them on with CAPO ROSSO, who showed plenty of speed on debut before tiring late on at Musselburgh. That experience will have done him plenty of good and his stable tends to do well at this venue.

Lockantanks would take some stopping if reproducing his winter all-weather form but he has something to prove on turf, unlike JUNGLE BAY, who confirmed his wellbeing with a handicap victory at Wolverhampton last month and scored over this C&D last summer. Jane Chapple-Hyam's five-year-old gets the nod ahead of admirable veteran Zomerlust, who bids for a plating hat-trick after landing a seller and claimer at Redcar and looks sure to run another big race.

There was plenty to like about SONKO's second to Ballesteros over C&D last month, when she set a strong pace before being reeled in by Brian Meehan's useful gelding. This sharp track really suits Tim Pitt's filly and, off an unchanged mark, she can make the most of this drop in grade. Powerful Wind was well beaten behind the selection that day but thanks to a subsequent York success, he reopposes on 4lb worse terms and bigger threats may be posed by Signifer and Royal Reyah, both of whom have been knocking on the door this term.

17:25 Chester (Class 5) (4YO plus)

An open finale, in which SANGAR and Ambala must be given sound claims on the back of good efforts in defeat at Carlisle and Newbury respectively. Slight preference is for the former given that he drops in class today, but serious consideration must also be given to Isdaal, a winner over 1m4f at Kempton last time out, and Favorite Girl, who has been in good heart at Southwell.
