TANNERMAN showed a great deal of potential when filling the runner-up spot on his NH bow in a Bangor bumper in November and although probably more of chaser for the future, it would be no surprise to see the Philip Hobbs-trained son of Presenting make a successful start to life over hurdles. Theatrical Star is better than he showed at Newcastle and is expected to enjoy the conditions, while African Broadway and Billy Merriott are others of note.

OFF THE GROUND has caught the eye finishing fourth in his three hurdle outings to date and could take advantage of what looks a workable opening handicap mark. Top weight Pipe Banner is considered the main threat competing off the same mark as when third at Newton Abbot on his latest outing. Hohlethelonely is respected, despite his unappealing strike-rate, while Bariolo could be the surprise package.

STATE BENEFIT looked comfortably in control prior to crashing out three from home on his chasing debut at Fontwell last month and with the benefit of that experience, he can make amends. Chasing should prove the key to this point-to-point winner and Nicky Henderson could hardly have his team in better form at present. Arthurian Legend was a Grade 3 handicap winner over hurdles and is of obvious interest making his first start over the bigger obstacles today, with Dona respected having chased home the useful Notus De La Tour at Plumpton.

MISSION COMPLETE is another typical Jonjo O'Neill improver and duly made it two wins from his last three starts when staying on well to collect at this venue last month. Only 4lb higher in the weights for that success, he should be able to win again and will be suited by returning to a stiffer test of stamina. Dolores Ortiz is interesting receiving weight all round following her solid third at Ludlow recently, while Sea Saffron is more than capable of getting involved if putting his best foot forward.

GOLDEN CHIEFTAIN looks like fulfilling his potential over fences this season following a 15-length romp at Uttoxeter last month. Colin Tizzard's giant son of Tikkanen loves getting his toe into rain-soaked ground and is very much one to follow this winter. His main threat today could be recent C&D scorer Old Wigmore, but Penny Max and Mic's Delight are also expected to give the selection something to think about.

Following a 3m5f success, a last-fence mistake cost Canal Bank a double at Bangor last month and a 4lb rise is unlikely to prevent another bold bid. He may prefer a bit further than this, however, and the slight preference is for SARIKA, winner of a novices' event over C&D last time out. He is 7lb higher now but the form has been boosted by the third winning since and Nick Williams' lightly-raced six-year-old is open to further progress. Molly Round also landed a novices' contest latest but has her stamina to prove over this long trip.

Sixth in a decent Ascot bumper on debut, TYPHON DE GUYE narrowly failed to hold on at Towcester in November and, with further progress expected, may be the safest option in the finale. There are no shortage of dangers, however, including Xaarcet, who was half a length behind the selection at Ascot, and Proximo, who caught the eye staying on for third over shorter (1m6f) first time out. Unex Degas, a 92,000-guinea purchase representing the David Pipe yard, looks the pick of the newcomers.
