Dovils Date shoulders a winner's penalty for landing a similar race at Musselburgh on his NH debut two starts ago and, as his most recent performance at Cheltenham proved, he would have to improve in the jumping department if he's to be successful again. With that in mind, he's opposed with VEXILLUM. Harry Fry has enjoyed a pleasing start to his first season as a trainer and Mick Channon's ex-Flat representative (twice a winner on the level) is expected to have been well schooled for his debut over timber. Mr Lando and Whipcrackaway are others to consider.

First and second over the track and trip last month, KAITUNA can confirm that form in front of Venetian Lad. The latter was sent off an odds-on favourite on that occasion but Oliver Sherwood's charge stayed on best to land the spoils on similar ground and a 2lb weight swing in favour of Venetian Lad might not be enough to stop the selection going in again. Other interesting contenders include Emperor's Choice, who could build on a pleasing Ascot performance for the in-form Venetia Williams.

BREAKING BITS left a nasty-looking Downpatrick incident behind when a close-up second in a Tramore bumper last time and he makes his debut for Jamie Snowden here. Reverting to hurdles on the back of that confidence-boosting effort in October, the booking of Tom O'Brien suggests the son of Oscar has impressed in the schooling ring at home. Third behind the well-touted Close Touch at Ascot last month, Pahente is also respected, while Captain Bellamy completes the shortlist.

Billybo fairly bolted up from 9lb out of the handicap on his return from a 969-day absence at Towcester, and another big run could be on the cards effectively 2lb better off here. The value may just lie elsewhere, however, and KILVERGAN BOY can prove best for the red-hot Nigel Twiston-Davies operation. Down to what looks a workable mark again in the low 90s, he is proven over this sort of trip and looks the one to be on. Might As Well makes most appeal of the others.

YA HAFED remains relatively unexposed over timber after just six career starts in this sphere and he's been knocking the door off similar marks in recent times. The first-time blinkers have been applied for this assignment and that may sharpen him up, but keep a close eye on Fitandproperjob, who shoulders a 7lb penalty for scoring with something up his sleeve at Folkestone on similar ground last week. Crystal Swing is also given a chance.

It could be significant that Sam Twiston-Davies takes over in the plate aboard BROUSSE EN FEUX and the decision to come back to 2m4f is taken to prove a profitable one. A winner off a mark of 90 when in front of subsequent Lingfield scorer Topaze Collonges four starts ago, she's worth another look. Lapin Garou is likely to have his supporters on his handicap bow over fences, while course winner Sulpius should go close if he's over a recent Folkestone tumble.

Fran's Folly was in the process of running a big race when departing at the last flight at Wincanton in March and is respected but with the benefit of a recent run to his name, preference is for OLD MAGIC. Sophie Leech's charge was tapped for toe when third at Bangor over 2m1f latest and looks worth another try over this longer trip. Martin Keighley's handicap debutant Buddy Love and Morestead, who looks well-treated based on his chase win at Warwick, are others considered.
