STAGS LEAP, a winner over timber last month, almost made a winning return to the level from 4lb out of the weights in a higher grade over 1m6f at Musselburgh recently. Effectively racing off the same mark following a 4lb rise, Dianne Sayer's charge can make the most of this drop in class, possibly at the main expense of Asterales, a short-head winner over 1m4f at Thirsk on Monday but carrying a 6lb penalty this evening as a result. Terenzium is back off the same mark as when winning this race last year and must be considered, along with fellow C&D scorer Hi Dancer.

Pastoral Prey will have plenty of supporters following two silver medals but his second over C&D earlier this month hasn't been well advertised since and the preference is for RED JOKER. Alan Swinbank's charge ran a big race from the front when runner-up on his debut over 6f at Newcastle and should have learnt a lot from that experience. Gold Beau stepped up on his debut effort when runner-up over C&D latest and should find a race sooner rather than later.

First-time cheekpieces sparked an improved effort from Outback when third in a C&D maiden last time and, along with Supreme Luxury, sets the standard, but the bar isn't set too high and it could pay to take a chance on CENTRIFUGAL. He represents a Mark Johnston stable that knows how to get one ready first time out, his dam was a Listed winner and he wouldn't have to be anything special to make a winning debut tonight.

An open handicap but there is plenty to like about the chances of MADAM MACIE, who bounced back from her York flop when third in a competitive 1m handicap at Thirsk last week. David O'Meara's mare ran out an easy winner from Hot Rod Mamma over this C&D earlier in the month and the latter will do well to turn the tables, despite being better treated this time. Certral and Polar Annie have posted some good efforts in defeat of late and should be in the firing line, along with Parley, who wasn't too far away at HQ at the weekend.

Dandy Nicholls' runners are always worth a second look at plating level and FOL HOLLOW is no exception. Winner of a small-field race in this grade at Redcar last month, the selection then disappointed back in 0-85 handicap company at Thirsk, but will be more at home now returned this level. Angelo Poliziano was slowly into stride here last time but is capable of finishing closer if the blindfold is promptly removed this evening, while track and trip winner Northern Bolt also commands respect due to the framing of the weights.

ABLE MASTER has improved for the switch to David O'Meara and opened his account for this yard over 7f at Ayr last week. Penalised for that victory today, he's proven in the past he has the speed for this trip and a double could feasibly be on the cards. 3lb higher than when scoring at York, Klynch is entitled to be thereabouts, while the consistent Crimson Knot and Paradise Spectre are unlikely to be far away and are others for the shortlist.

PETER ANDERS was denied a double on soft ground at Doncaster last time as he attempted to follow up his preceding victory at Southwell, but he remains on a workable mark and could get back on the winning trail if improving for the return to better ground. Khandaq looks dangerously handicapped at present and is worth a market check now dropped back in trip, while there may be better to come from Another For Joe, who made all to win a classified stakes race over 1m1f here earlier in the month.
