Donald McCain turns to the first-time blinkers in a bid to help Halogen recapture his best form and the drop into a seller will suit. Brian Ellison would appear to have his string in good order, though, and ROYAL OPERA gets a tentative vote. A not-beaten-far third when last sighted in this sphere in a Uttoxeter handicap, the C&D winner can regain some confidence against these rivals. The 120-rated Meetings Man is also shortlisted.

Halogen landed this corresponding race 12 months ago for Donald McCain and, in receipt of weight against the boys, Style Setter must come into the reckoning on her racecourse debut. IT'S ONLY BUSINESS will be tough to beat if reproducing the form that saw him bolt up at Uttoxeter in a similar race eight days ago, however, and he's taken to carry a winner's penalty to success. Walter White makes his NH debut for Philip Hobbs and a market check is advised.

Look no further than GRANDADS HORSE. Not only does Charlie Longsdon have his string in good form at present, his five-time hurdles winner absolutely bolted up when taking to fences for the first time over C&D three weeks ago and there doesn't appear to be much in way of strength in depth. He should prove a class above if running to his mark of 137 and, despite giving weight away all round, is very tough to oppose. Mr Plod and Bar De Ligne are expected to fight it out for minor honours.

Billie Magern is up 9lb for his latest Ludlow romp and the C&D winner cannot be dismissed at the summit of the weights. Lucky Landing is the only other course winner among the seven going to post, but GULLIBLE GORDON makes most appeal. A shrewd piece of placement on Peter Bowen's behalf means the Anshan gelding doesn't shoulder a penalty for fairly bolting up at Aintree in a conditional jockeys' handicap last week and a similar performance might just be good enough. Ciceron and General Miller rate best of the rest.

MIGHTY CLARETS is taken to open his hurdling account. Peter Bowen's charge left his maiden/novice performances well behind when third on his handicap debut at Stratford earlier this month and a 5lb rise may not be enough to stop him in what looks a very winnable contest today. Tadabeer must enter calculations lining up off the same mark as when third behind subsequent winner Social Realism at Worcester, while Persian Herald, Bob's Legend and Tiradia complete the shortlist.

17:20 Market Rasen (Class 4) (5YO plus)

BASIL FAWLTY showed a likeable attitude when striking over 2m7f at Worcester recently and a 7lb penalty may not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same stubborn mood today. Halucha warrants plenty of respect on his chasing return after readily regaining the winning thread over hurdles at Towcester, while Minella Fifty, Foot The Bill and Glen Countess add further spice to the contest.

17:55 Market Rasen (Class 6) (4YO to 6YO)

Plain Sailing left his debut performance well behind when scoring comfortably at Stratford latest and any further improvement should see him bang there this afternoon, while chances are also given to Magic Present, Western Xpress and Pamela Lewis. The vote, however, goes to CLEVER COOKIE. The five-year-old made a big impression when beating a well-regarded sort from the Nicky Richards stable at Musselburgh in November (front two pulled clear of the rest) and he is entitled to have learnt plenty from that opening run.
