Richard Fahey's Devlin is afforded plenty of respect but his pedigree suggests he may come into his own over further and preference is for HAMZA, a colt by the yard's top class Amadeus Wolf and out of a dam that is a half-sister to Dandy Man. Quite simply, he is bred for speed and a big run is anticipated. Mark Johnston's Exceed and Excel colt Idler is another that makes appeal on breeding and enters calculations.

Eton Fable should give it a good go from the front and scored in this grade at Southwell last month while Relative Strength is another that goes well at plating level, but GRAND DIAMOND looks the one to be on. Jim Goldie's gelding has been in reasonable form over hurdles recently and in receipt of 5lb from the last-named, looks set for a big run now back on the level with Kieren Fallon doing the steering.

Oldjoesaid is well treated on his best form but can only be watched at present. Highland Warrior showed he was no back number last season with a series of credible runs here, including a C&D win in September. If his appetite remains he would be in with a solid chance (goes well fresh) but preference is for the unexposed and improving hold up performer NADEEN, who has hinted at Southwell the last twice that his turn is near.

Chilledtothebone is likely to be popular with Kieren Fallon in the plate but it might pay to take a chance on DELANEY'S DREAM, who looks well treated on his handicap bow judging by his maiden win at Catterick (had subsequent all-weather scorers Monsieur Jamie and Joe Le Taxi filling the minor placings in behind). Las Verglas Star has edged up the handicap without winning but sets a solid form standard and is likely to finish in the shake-up.

The handicapper may have caught up Elijah Pepper now so the eased-in-grade NORTHERN FLING is preferred. Jim Goldie's charge appears to have lost some of his speed as he has grown older but was staying on over this trip at Ayr when signing off last season and has a history of going well fresh. The lightly-raced Guest Book, who ran a cracker in a higher grade at Epsom late last term, is another to consider.

CALYPSO MAGIC shaped with promise in maiden company last term and looks sure to appreciate this step up in trip so gets the vote here. Dressing Room, a half-brother to Lord Shanakill, wasn't running to quite the same level of form as the selection last term but is another expected to fare better over this longer distance and he warrants the utmost respect. See The Smile is entitled to strip fitter for his reappearance run on the all-weather last month and is also considered.

A very difficult race to untangle but there is plenty to like about the chances of VERLUGA. Bryan Smart's gelding has sharpened up his fitness with a couple of spins over hurdles and returns to the Flat off a realistic mark. My One Weakness and Bahamian Kid look competitively weighted and shouldn't be far away, while Shunkawakhan is 11lb lower than his C&D victory three seasons ago and he isn't without hope in an open race.
