Recent C&D winner Vision De La Vie merits plenty of respect following that game success, but the 7lb penalty makes life tougher today. Solway Bay was another to be successful over this track and trip last time but the handicapper has raised him 8lb for that victory. It could be wise to side with PROUD GAMBLE, who has finished behind both Solway Bay and Vision De La Vie on his last two starts. That being said, he meets those rivals on much better terms today and is open to some improvement still.

Impulsive American is the obvious starting point in this contest but, while he has proven ability at this level, he has also had plenty of opportunities and could find one too good for him once again. That could come in the form of EMPEROR SAKHEE, who fell early on in a very hot contest at Doncaster last time. Prior to that he put together back-to-back wins in bumpers and is certainly capable of winning a race of this nature. Others worth noting include Brian Boranha and Rolling Thunder.

A race that looks set to be dominated by three last time out winners in Bollin Line, Finea and OSCAR LATEEN. Preference goes to the latter because he was extremely impressive when beating a subsequent dual winner at Newcastle in December and a 7lb rise in the handicap looks very fair. Bollin Line won a weaker race at Catterick and also earned a 7lb rise, while Finea (engaged to run at Ayr yesterday) scored comfortably at Down Royal recently and warrants respect.

A tricky contest that can go the way of NO CEILING, who escapes a penalty for his success in a conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle at Doncaster last week. On paper this is a step up in grade but this is a very moderate race for the grade. Danceintothelight needs to bounce back from a poor run last time but he did win well the time before, while Snowed In put in a much improved effort over C&D latest.

SERENITY NOW was dropped into too hot a contest last time when well beaten in a Listed event over C&D, but his form prior to that suggests that he should be thereabouts in this contest. The consistent El Beau rarely runs a bad race and has yet to finish out of the first two in five starts over hurdles. The returning Venue showed ability last season but looks high enough in the handicap, while Jonny Delta and Teo Vivo make some each-way appeal.

FREDO should take some stopping for an in-form handler if running up to a mark of 121. Not seen since finishing a creditable runner-up in a handicap at Warwick under a 7lb penalty 346 days ago, Ian Williams' charge can take full advantage of the drop into hunter chase company. Klepht is the pick of these on official ratings and has low mileage for his age, so he's noted along with Wind Of Hope, a consistent performer both under Rules and between the flags.

Selkirk's Island, a beautifully-bred daughter of Yeats, boasts sound claims if taking her chance but that is no guarantee following an engagement at Ayr yesterday. Her absence would present DUBAI SHEN with a golden opportunity as he ran better than his form figure suggests over C&D in November and that form has since taken a boost. Boyhood ran sixth in a point-to-point last May and could be anything on his Rules bow for an astute handler, with similar sentiments applying to Up North.
