POET'S SOCIETY is proving a typically resilient Mark Johnston inmate and ran his best race to date when going down by just half a length to the progressive Kocollada, who subsequently ran an excellent fourth behind the dynamic Lady Aurelia at Royal Ascot. That represents strong form and he's taken to concede weight all round, with the fact he's already scored on the new Newcastle surface an added bonus. Seebring shaped promisingly on his Wetherby debut and should go well along with My Cherry Blossom, noted when a staying-on third at Ripon first time up. Pulsating has place claims.

Markaz has the classiest form in the book and seems sure to contend but hasn't been seen at this sprint trip for over a year whilst Pretend is an intriguing Godolphin challenger having proved a revelation on the all-weather in 2014-15 but not seen since flopping on his first run on turf in this country over a year ago. Strong market support should be seriously heeded. Buratino and Mr Lupton should represent the three-year-old brigade with distinction but POLYBIUS should be all the better for his reappearance and the best of his sprinting form last term reads appealingly.

Blaine was devastatingly impressive at Epsom but is 11lb higher here and one of his Surrey victims, GEORGE BOWEN, may turn the form around despite having been beaten nearly 10 lengths by the Nicholls inmate. The selection is now 12lb better off and was never able to take a prominent position at Epsom before staying on late. He should be primed after two starts this year and will be better suited to this more conventional track. Sir Robert Cheval nearly scored on his first run for the Cowell team and could well emerge as the prime threat as he really seemed to appreciate that return to 6f.

DANNYDAY failed to make the cut for the main event but has a great consolation opportunity as he was extremely impressive on his seasonal reappearance when scoring in decisive fashion at Chelmsford. Just the sort his master trainer excels with, the Dansili colt should be open to any amount of improvement after eight starts and looks feasibly treated off a mark of 91. The Cashel Man is a similar sort who ran a fine race when runner-up at York on his first run back and the Simcock team are in fine form. The unexposed Sea Of Heaven and Nicky Henderson's Cardinal Walter are also of considerable interest.

Gang Warfare is talented but remains the subject of harsh handicapping treatment whilst Steve Rogers should prove better suited to this galloping track than when a beaten favourite around the idiosyncracies of Chester. No Heretic, the winner of the Chester Cup, never looked competitive at Royal Ascot but it's significant that Nicky Henderson returns him to action within 11 days. Polarisation has yet to fully convince he's suited by 2m and NAKEETA is preferred for the progressive Jardine team. A cracking second in the Chester Cup, he now runs off a career-high mark but continues to improve and hopefully Royston French will be able to obtain a good position from his central draw.

Victoria Pollard is starting to drop to a more workable mark and Rob Hornby's additional claim will help too but OSARUVEETIL continues to give the impression he's more than capable of landing a decent contest if things go his way. With just four career starts under his belt, he still seems to be learning his trade but clearly has plenty of talent and is a strong traveller. He'll go well if Phillip Makin can get him settled early. Top of The Glas ran a cracker in the Cumberland Plate this week and repeat of that run would see him go very close. He's a big danger.

Star Of Spring has claims off the bottom perch but remains a maiden, whilst Street Artist showed improved form last time when a close Chelmsford third. Berlusca stuck on well to oblige the last day and is also considered but MOUNTAIN RESCUE, a Leicester winner in mid-May, arguably has greater potential than his rivals and has been admirably consistent this year.
