Carrick Dhu has yet to win a race in 12 attempts, but has fair claims on his second of 18 to Mr Multifix at Ayr in February. Slight preference is for SOLWAY BEE, who gets the mare's allowance, is ridden by a polished claimer and also has the form to figure. General Ledger beat the decent Brook No Argument in a Hexham bumper 14 months ago and has run respectably a few times over timber.

As per usual at this fixture, there is a convoy of southern raiders and one of them, Nicky Henderson's VON GALEN, could be the answer to this. He ran well on ground he didn't much like when second to Earth Planet at Wincanton last time. The Great Alfie looks to have been brought along with handicaps in mind and his trainer has a good record here. Valentines Lady won twice before Christmas and has gone well fresh in the past.

FLEET STREET has been lightly raced since his third in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle of 2004, but is very much back on track judged on his fourth in the Jewson Novices' Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. Flying Falcon has reeled off a hat-trick this spring, but the competition is a bit tougher this time. Nudge And Nurdle looked good on his chasing bow at Kelso in December. Not much has gone right since, but he merits respect along with The Whisperer.

MOTIVE probably needed the outing at Newcastle last month and is capable of running well off this mark given that he was a 92-rated Flat performer a year ago. Orang Outan came back from an absence to win in tidy style at Kelso recently and remains of interest. Bonchester Bridge takes a drop in class and comes into the argument along with the in-form pair All For The Cause and Stainley.

The lightly raced BERMUDA POINTE is relatively fresh and potentially well in. He was lumbered with 11st 11lb when a bit below par at Kempton last time, but ran well at Stratford the time before. Categorical had a spin on the Flat 12 days ago (third to Grizebeck) and comes into it on the pick of his form, while Donovan notched an autumn four-timer and is better than he showed at Haydock last time (first run since November).

Nigel Twiston-Davies fields another live contender in the shape of MAJOR MALARKEY, who followed his Ludlow win with a fourth of 21 to Wun Choi in a Wincanton handicap. Silver Steel has a capable amateur on top and shaped creditably when fourth of 17 to Stravalgin at Newcastle. Smart Man reverts back to hurdles from fences and rarely runs a bad race. I'm Your Man makes each-way appeal off a handy mark.

Although Andrew Nick is of definite interest over this type of trip, he may just need a bit more time and PRINCE DU BEURY could be the one. His placed efforts behind Hibiki at Ludlow and Hora at Ascot set a fair benchmark. Speed Up has let a few chances slip and Diamond Frontier could prove to be more dangerous given that Schlem, who beat him at Newcastle, won again on Monday.
