Luccombe Down is likely to be a very popular selection following a hat-trick of wins already this season, but a 10lb rise in the ratings for his latest win will make life tougher for the six-year-old. Similar comments apply to OMID, although the son of Dubawi was hugely impressive when winning at Cartmel last time out by 17 lengths and a 11lb rise may underestimate him. It also worth noting that his last success prior to that came over this C&D in August 2015. Others to note are Optimistic Bias, Skylander and Volcanic.

In a race that lacks strength in depth, it is hard to oppose FOR GOODNESS SAKE, who has been running consistently well of late over hurdles. A win a Market Rasen in May was followed by two places in similar contests the following month and she has since made the frame in a couple of contests on the Flat. The main danger looks to be Lucy Mc because of the weight she gets from the selection, but she will need to improve to be successful today. Katie's Hen looks to be the next best but she has 19lb to find with the selection based on official ratings.

ANTI COOL has improved a ton for the application of a visor and won with plenty in hand last time at Southwell. Connections have wisely turned him out again quickly under a 7lb penalty, which may yet underestimate how much he had in hand on that occasion, and he could prove difficult to beat if in the same form here. Reverse The Charge is consistent and shouldn't be out of the frame, while Blake Dean has to be considered on his chasing debut.

GABRIAL THE GREAT's jumping is improving with each run and a return to hurdling can help David Pipe's charge to claim a second victory in his last four starts. Good ground should suit the son of Montjeu and the seven-year-old can make the long journey worthwhile. Mighty Missile has first-time blinkers applied, while Jokers And Rogues showed much improvement over the spring for Kenneth Slack and it would be no surprise to see him refreshed following a 152-day break.

Dursey Sound would be a danger to all from his current rating if he could rediscover his best form and it would not be the biggest surprise if he were to do so. That said, the safer pick looks to be THE BACKUP PLAN, who only found one too good in a similar event at Bangor last month and that form has been boosted with the third running well since then. A 1lb rise for that effort looks fair and both of his wins so far in his career have come at this venue. Degooch found the step up in trip too much for him last time but he had previously been successful at Uttoxeter over a similar trip to this. Rough Justice will need to improve on recent performances.

VIC'S LAST STAND has looked a different animal since switched to handicap company and it was hard not to be impressed by the manner of her 12-length victory over the extended 2m3f here last time. Officially 6lb well-in under a 7lb penalty, she will be well fancied to complete the double. Amongst the dangers are Irish raider Shamat, who wears cheekpieces for the first time, and Market Rasen runner-up Pixiepot. Steady Major and four-time course scorer Hi Dancer add further spice to the race.

Dan Skelton boasts an impressive 35% strike-rate with his Sedgefield runners over the last five seasons (45% with hurdlers alone) and it looks a tip in itself that he brings just one horse, SAND BLAST, up north from his Warwickshire base today. The five-year-old backed up his Worcester success with solid placed efforts both at Uttoxeter and Stratford and he is expected to prove too good for these rivals, despite a slightly lacklustre effort at Southwell yesterday. Doitforjoe landed a Southwell maiden yesterday and looks the biggest threat, ahead of Crakehall Lad and Our Reward.
