Those with previous hurdling experience do not set a high level and so it is hard to oppose THIRD TIME LUCKI, who won two bumpers last season and he was last seen finishing fourth in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. If Dan Skelton's gelding is anywhere near that level of form today then he should outclass his rivals. Canastero was progressive bumpers last year, while the point-to-point winners Mongol Emperor and Ocean Drifter also merit respect.

WILDE ABOUT OSCAR was an impressive bumper winner at Warwick two starts ago and he was not disgraced when last seen in a Listed contest at Newbury in February. With a clear round of jumping he can get off the mark at the first attempt over hurdles. Give Us A Swig won his sole start between the flags earlier in the year and he has to be noted on his Rules debut. Lord Of Kerak cost 240,000 euro as a store and he is a half-brother to the high-class chaser Hell's Kitchen.

NAIZAGAI was an impressive winner on his hurdling/stable debut at Cartmel in August and he merits the utmost respect today, despite having to carry a 7lb penalty for that success. Magna Moralia displayed plenty promise when hitting the crossbar at Sedgefield a couple of weeks ago and he is likely to pose the biggest threat to the selection. Cabot Cliffs showed some ability on the Flat and he could go well on his hurdling debut.

CANELO ended last season with a comfortable 2m4f victory on heavy ground at Huntingdon and, if anywhere near peak fitness on his return to action, he should go close off a 6lb higher mark. Northofthewall has won his last two starts over hurdles by a combine total of 43 lengths and is very much one to consider on his chasing debut, while Eden Du Houx and Young Bull are just a couple more with claims in this fiercely competitive handicap.

ESPION is seemingly a late-developing type and he improved throughout last season, finishing off with an easy novice hurdle win over 2m4f here. He doesn't look badly treated on his handicap debut and, with soft conditions no problem either, he is fancied to play a leading role. Supremely Lucky may improve for having had wind surgery and for the application of cheekpieces. He is a C&D winner and warrants respect, while Captain Drake and Martha Brae are just two more on the long list of interesting participants.

Shanty Alley was eight lengths clear when falling three out at Southwell in March and he merits respect with first-time cheekpieces fitted on his return, while Itsamanslife has been absent since January, but won comfortably at Wetherby that day and cannot be ruled out either. However, from further down the weights, preference is for a fighting-fit EASY BUCKS. He built on his Plumpton second when hacking up over an extended 2m6f here last time and a 7lb penalty might not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same mood.

HOW'S THE CRICKET has stepped forward since being switched into handicap company and the five-year-old can go one better than his latest C&D second with champion jockey Brian Hughes booked for the ride. Say The Word ended last season in decent form and has the potential for further improvement this campaign, while Radjash merits consideration under a 7lb penalty following his most recent C&D victory.

GLOBAL FAMENGLORY boasts a smart pedigree, being a half-sister to the smart dual-purpose performer Noble Prince, and Dan Skelton's filly commands the utmost respect on her racecourse debut. Roque Angel has race fitness on her side following her fourth on debut at Warwick last month, while Dorisa Queen and Billams Legacy represent stables that do particularly well in this sphere so any market support will make them of interest.
