MOUNTAIN HIKER was a well-beaten third in a claiming hurdle over 3m1f at Perth last month but a reproduction of that effort would give him sound claims as he drops in grade this evening. Wee Giant has been struggling of late but he would be a leading contender if bouncing back to anything like his best, while Landenstown Star was not disgraced in handicap company at Fakenham last time and he should not be overlooked.

Tinseltown won with a bit in hand over this C&D last week and a 7lb penalty is unlikely to prevent another big run. However, it might be worth taking a chance on CAPRICORNUS. A useful Flat performer, he showed just glimmers of promise over hurdles for Ferdy Murphy but he looks feasibly handicapped as a result and the return of cheekpieces could help as he makes his first start for Tim Vaughan this evening. Smart George drops in trip and confidence behind him in the betting market would be interesting.

Billy Cuckoo performed with credit in a hunters' chase at Ffos Las last time and there could be some improvement to come from him now he has joined Tony Coyle. However, this looks like a decent opportunity for DANIMIX who made an encouraging chasing debut at Bangor last month after a long time off the track. The Irish raider, Sweet Shock, has been well below par on his two most recent outings but he would have fair claims if bouncing back to form.

On The Right Path won well at Uttoxeter last month but the handicapper has made life tougher for him with an 11lb rise. He is respected nonetheless but he might have his work cut out to get the better of PADDY THE HARE, who has been knocking on the door in handicap company of late. Windwood Lad is also worthy of a place on the shortlist and the potentially well-handicapped Merrydown could also take a hand.

ZAPLAMATION has been running well on the Flat of late and he just about sets the standard here on his best hurdles form, so he could take all the beating back over timber this evening. Kingdom Of Munster has had plenty of chances but he has obvious each-way claims, while Oakwell shaped nicely at Sedgefield last time and merits respect. Lifetime could not be ruled out with confidence and the two hurdling debutants, Gold Bullet and Yorksters Prince, are also worth monitoring in the betting market.

A tricky little contest. Galway Jack was a shade disappointing at Market Rasen last time but he is capable of better and could be in the shake-up. The Irish raider, Turner Brown, is an interesting contender on his chasing debut but another chance is given to PIGEON ISLAND, who has not won for over two years but has dropped to a very attractive handicap mark and he has trip and ground to suit tonight.

Ron won a Doncaster bumper in March and he is respected despite his penalty while Sedgefield winner Forty Crown must also be considered, along with Woodacre, who has performed admirably on both of his outings to date. However, PORTWAY FLYER is an interesting newcomer who makes plenty of appeal on breeding and he could be set to give a good account on his debut for an in-form yard. Confidence behind him in the betting market would certainly be a big positive.
