Solstice Star probably did not get the credit he deserved for his progressive season during the last campaign, which included a second in the Imperial Cup back in March. That said, he may struggle to give 5lb and race fitness to FOU ET SAGE, who has also had the benefit of six starts over fences in France this summer. The son of Sageburg is now on his third trainer this year, having been under the care of Dan Skelton prior to returning to his native France. The race that Double W's won at Carlisle was not as strong as this but it did prove his ability over fences and we may not have seen the very best of him.

Card Game, Midnight Jazz, Miss Crick, PASS THE TIME and Stephanie Frances are all relatively closely matched on ratings and it would be a big surprise if one them were not successful. Preference is for Pass The Time as she is race-fit from her summer novice chase campaign and her fourth in the Grade 1 Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival is by some way the best recent form on offer here. Stephanie Frances has a similar profile to the selection but she has ground to find on her based on their meeting back in March.

Ballyoptic is without doubt the one to beat in this contest given his Grade 1 win last season and the fact that he arrives here race-fit having won the Silver Trophy at Chepstow earlier in the month. That said, preference is for NATIVE RIVER, who improved during his novice chase campaign last season and he could take all the beating if transferring that ability to the smaller obstacles. The admirable Lil Rockerfeller is vulnerable under his 8lb penalty for his Grade 2 win in February, while If In Doubt and Silsol should be in the mix for the minor places.

CUE CARD was as good as ever last season following a wind operation, taking this en-route to landing the Betfair Chase for a second time and the King George when nabbing Vautour on the line. He bounced back from his Gold Cup fall with a demolition job at Aintree in the Betfred Bowl before proving to be over the top at Punchestown. Despite having to give weight to all his rivals bar Menorah, Colin Tizzard's charge should prove to be in a class of his own. Blaklion surprised last season over fences, ending up with success at the Cheltenham Festival, and should be ready enough for his return to action. Virak was hugely consistent in big handicap chases last season despite not winning and is likely to give another bold account, while the older pairing of Menorah and Dynaste have something to prove against their younger rivals.

An interesting renewal and marginal preference is for OZZIE THE OSCAR, who showed some excellent form last season with a hat-trick before falling to the promising West Approach at Newton Abbot when giving that rival 10lb. Mister Kit couldn't defy a hefty penalty last time out but merits respect given his current form, while Zipple Back makes his hurdling debut for Alan King after two excellent bumper efforts at Huntingdon and Aintree earlier this year.

Zeroeshadesofgrey was the best of these over hurdles and already has chasing experience when not jumping with much fluency in this very contest 12 months ago. The son of Portrait Gallery is well worth taking on and preference goes to ROYAL VACATION, who stayed on into second last time at Fontwell behind As De Mee over what appears an inadequate distance and the son of King's Theatre is entitled to improve for his first attempt at 3m. Donna's Diamond looks the most solid threat making his chase debut having proven to be a useful hurdler.

BLUE RAMBLER was sixth in the Cesarewitch on the Flat three weeks ago and is potentially well treated in this sphere while racing off a hurdles mark of 122. Kalondra has landed back-to-back novice hurdles over this trip at Worcester and is expected to give a good account now sent handicapping. Western Breeze is worth a market check now back from a break, while Apple Of Our Eye has claims if building on his last run at Worcester.
