TOP TARGET has a 7lb penalty to contend with after a pleasing win on his hurdling debut at Wetherby, but may prove worth chancing given he's open to stacks more improvement and represents a powerful yard. The Gooner should have learned plenty from his opening bid under Rules at Carlisle and can chase him home, while De Wanted Warrior rates best of the rest.

MARDOOF ran a race full of promise when finishing third on his second start over hurdles at Uttoxeter last month and looks the one to beat if running to a similar level in this contest. Mullinaree is entitled to improve for his hurdling debut when placing at Newcastle in November and may give the selection most to think about, ahead of Celtic Art, who proved a useful sort on the Flat and it is too early to be writing him off in this sphere.

CELEBRE D'ALLEN's stamina appeared stretched by the 3m distance on his reappearance at Warwick in November and he could bounce back to winning ways now returned to his last winning distance. Elixir De Nutz is dangerous when gaining an uncontested lead and could prove a threat if allowed to dictate from the front, but Kiltealy Briggs is another who likes to force the pace and rates a bigger danger.

This can go the way of ANOTHER CRICK, who landed the corresponding event last year from a 3lb higher mark. Noel William's gelding hasn't been at his best in recent starts, but the application of first-time blinkers could help spark a revival. Desque De L'Isle demands the utmost respect as he bids for a hat-trick following his brace of victories at Ludlow, while Not Available, who finished a good third at Newbury last Saturday, is another to note.

In what appears to be another fiendishly difficult affair to unpick, only a tentative vote can go to THE RAIN KING. A winner on the Flat in May, the son of No Nay Never has been far from disgraced on both starts over hurdles and he could take a marked step forward on his handicap bow. Force De Frap recorded a comfortable victory at Taunton last month and must be respected from a 5lb higher mark. Others to note include Hermes Le Gris, Gorcombe Moonshine and La Breille.

CHIANTI CLASSICO has looked like a natural since beginning his career in this sphere and a mark of 131 on his handicap debut could prove lenient, going by the way he saw off the opposition at Market Rasen last month. Stoner's Choice is fairly handicapped on old form and his most recent effort at Doncaster wasn't overly discouraging, while the capable Sir Psycho is of interest back over hurdles having fallen on his chasing bow at Bangor.

NO HUBS NO HOOBS looks like the obvious one, having won with authority over C&D on Boxing Day and a 5lb rise may underestimate him as he looks to follow up down in grade. Going back right-handed could be the key to easy Ludlow scorer Paseo, while My Bad Lucy produced a decent effort when third at Doncaster last time out and may well improve for the step up in trip.
