PONS AELIUS shed the maiden tag in commanding style over C&D last month and the son of Galileo may be able to defy a 6lb rise with a reproduction of that performance. If he fails to fire, Geelong could pick up the pieces on his seasonal reappearance having showed plenty of promise when winning at this venue on debut. Love Mystery is another to consider.

In this competitive contest the marginal preference goes to MOBARHIN, who was denied by a narrow margin at Lingfield last time out. The son of Muhaarar hit the line with plenty of conviction and gets the nod to make amends today. Although Rebel Redemption failed to fire last time out, the five-year-old merits plenty of consideration, while Lilkian is another to consider.

LUCIA JOY has been edging towards a first career victory and this looks like the perfect opportunity to shed the maiden tag with James Doyle in the saddle. The daughter of Ulysses hit the line with plenty of conviction on her latest outing and may be able to take a step forward today. Kobra landed the spoils on her sole outing in Germany and merits plenty of consideration, while Another Romance completes the shortlist.

A select but highly competitive handicap which features Royal Ascot winner THE GRAND VISIR. Ian Williams' charge won the Ascot Stakes in 2019 off just 2lb lower and was last seen in this sphere finishing behind Stradivarius in the Group 2 Doncaster Cup. He has struggled in two subsequent starts over hurdles but comes in here fresh, which is a positive for him, and makes a good bit of appeal dropping back into handicap company. Red Verdon has run in two Caulfield Cups and beat the selection off level weights in last year's Coral Marathon at Sandown, so he's noted along with Halimi.

NINE ELMS is a two-time C&D winner who had a few of these behind when finishing a good second here last time out. The Street Cry gelding is just 1lb higher bidding to go one place better and gets the nod to confirm that last-start form with Quoteline Direct (fourth) and Amalfi Salsa (fifth). Flight Command comes in here on the back of a decent third-placed effort at Chelmsford and is another to take seriously.

ODD SOCKS HAVANA can gain the success his recent form and consistency richly deserves. He is yet to finish outside of the first three home in six starts since joining Rebecca Menzies' yard, winning once, and everything points to another bold showing. Prior to signing off 2021 with a Bath disappointment, Four Feet hit the crossbar twice on the all-weather and heads a list of dangers that also includes Big Dutchie and Red Bravo.

JENNY REN has been something of a standing dish at this track, winning on her penultimate start and showing that her current rating is not insurmountable when fourth here last time. She could put her course form to good use under Serena Brotherton. Study The Stars was only beaten a head over this trip at Kempton last time and has to be considered, while Denable stays well and could be a factor if back to form under Kerryanne Alexander.

He might be firmly in the twilight of his career, but THE RESDEV WAY won under today's pilot at Lingfield in January and is only 2lb higher in this. Most of his runs have been over further of late, but perhaps this trip will give him the opportunity to outstay his rivals. Merweb was better at Chelmsford last time but that coincided with a drop to 10 furlongs, while Grandscape made the frame over 1m6f on his last visit to this track but was well beaten over this distance at Newbury when last seen.
