Daniela Mele shot to fame last year when she saddled Rosario Baron to lift the Grade 1 Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris. He was then off for more than a year due to injury but has since come back and will once more have the French Gold Cup as his goal.
In the meantime, his half-brother French Baron, who only made his debut at Compiegne in March this year, will be making his first appearance at Auteuil during the 48-hour jumping bonanza on the 16 and 17 November. “I’m not saying he is the next Rosario Baron,” confirms his trainer who only took her licence in 2019. “But he is a very nice horse and I can’t wait to see him.”
Here, the Swiss-born trainer, who is based at Gavray-sur-Sienne in Normandy, talks to Liz Price for attheraces.com about the horses she is running during that prestigious weekend at Auteuil and also gives us an update on some of her other runners.
