AURA OF MELANIA has been knocking hard on the door the last twice, both here and at Ripon, and Roger Fell's juvenile is going to win a nursery of this nature sooner rather than later. She has clearly improved for dropping back to 6f and gets a confident vote. Of the others, keep a close eye on Cheeky Chesca and Mick's The Boy.
Aura Of Melania enters the race in good form, finishing runner-up over C&D last time, and she could have more to offer still tried in a tongue-tie now, but Karl Burke's runs a handicap newcomer in the shape of LADY TITANIA, and it's her who is the selection. Although yet to trouble the judge in three starts, she has hinted at promise, including when dropped to 5f at Chester last time. Her opening mark of 56 looks fair. Cheeky Chesca could do with some rain but still comes in as third choice regardless with her left on the same mark as when third in a maiden last time.

There are a few in here who are beginning to look a bit exposed, but Queen Sana gets first-time cheekpieces now and Stoneacre Joe is tried in blinkers. You can add Apex Star to that list, and perhaps the safe play is PERSIAN GATE, who improved from his first to second run when going down by a head in third at Chepstow.
Apex Star is well exposed but this is a weak race and he ought to be thereabouts - he's been running exclusively in handicaps this year. The selection, though, is PERSIAN GATE, who has run to a similar level in both starts and now gets cheekpieces for the first time which could improve. Queen Sana, like Apex Star, is exposed but could have a say dropping back into a maiden.

GIANT's nose was just in front at Brighton last month and Ian Williams' charge is taken to go in again now confidence has been restored. The drop back to 6f clearly helped him last time and connections have found their gelding another very winnable opening. Methgal arrives in good nick and cannot be overlooked, while Battenburg Belle should also be thereabouts.
This can go to the progressive 3yo filly BATTENBURG BELLE, twice a C&D winner this season, including two weeks ago whe scoring in game fashion off 2lb lower. She might have more to offer still and is just favoured to Methgal, who has been in fine form himself and has a handy draw in stall 2. Third pick is Giant, a winner at Brighton last time who still looks fairly treated but has a bit of a wide draw.

Pit Boss scores highly for consistency but might just be vulnerable in here switching to turf on the back of a break. With that in mind, C&D scorer DREAM DEAL might be a safer bet and Tim Easterby's charge can leave a moderate Beverley performance behind back on better ground. Lanarra scored over C&D in a classified event recently and another bold bid would come as no surprise. However, the return to handicap company does require a bit more, with MAYNORA is a touch more appealing. Craig Lidster's inmate arrives on the back of a solid second at Ayr and a similar performance off an unaltered mark may prove sufficient. Southwell winner Taaklam is high on the shortlist as well.
Willowinghurn flopped on the AW the other day but has run well at Ffos Las previously and a bounce back would be no surprise, while Lope Y Linda returned to best form when runner-up at Southwell last week. She's also a former C&D scorer but stall 12 makes things tricky. A better option looks to be LANARRA, who won a classified over C&D 13 days ago. She's cosnsistent, has a nice attitude and has just a 3lb higher mark to cope with back in a handicap.

CAPTAIN CESS didn't enjoy the best of runs when runner-up on his follow-up bid over 6f here and compensation may beckon. A 1lb nudge up in the ratings may prove to be lenient for the four-year-old, with a return to his last winning distance sure to suit. Filey Beach posted a respectable fifth at Beverley recently and may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Electric Lightning.
Let's go with the top weight CAPTAIN CESS. He's really struck form of late, winning at Thirsk two starts back before finishing a creditable second over 6f here last time. Stepping back up to 7f will be in his favour and he can prove too strong for Filey Beach. That one really likes this C&D and is working his way back down towards a fair mark. Third choice is Mister Sky Blue, a consistent enough sort and another who acts well here.

Our Absent Friends looked close to his best when hitting the frame at Ripon eight days ago and he looks more than capable of going close at the same level. The veteran isn't taken lightly, but WEN MOON is slightly more compelling. Ben Haslam's inmate has finished third on his last two outings and a race of this nature looks within his compass. J Street and Hanney Girl are others of interest.
Top weight Our Absent Friends is a two-time C&D winner this summer and has had excuses more recently so he could easily bounce back to form, while Wen Moon has finished third on each of his last two starts and looks to be appraoching peak form. This may be settled between the two penalised winners in Star Start and ZIMMERMAN, with preference for the latter. Tim Easterby's gelding is racing off the same rating as his recent victory at Haydock on Friday and a hat-trick may be in order if those exertions don't take their toll. The aforementioned Star Start boasts a consistent profile and should make his presence felt, with Fleur De Mer the pick of the remainder.
It's hard to oppose ZIMMERMAN in his recent form. Successful twice in four days, including on heavy ground at Haydock on the weekend, he's dropping back down into a Class 6 and is taken to defy a 4lb penalty. The danger looks to be Star Start, another recent Haydock scorer, looks the danger under a penalty of his own, while at the foot of the weights Fleur De Mer looks to be rounding into form and likes this course.
