RICK earned the highest rating of these over timber with efforts such as his sixth in the Pertemps Final at this year's Cheltenham Festival (when with Dessie Hughes) and he is taken to make a winning chase debut today, having his first start for the shrewd John Ferguson operation. On official figures Rigidity was closest to the selection over hurdles and he warrants plenty of respect first time over fences, while Boruler and Balding Banker are others worthy of consideration in an intriguing opener.

ROYAL ESCORT made a promising start to her racing career when runner-up in a Sedgefield bumper 11 days ago and she is fancied to make a winning debut over hurdles this afternoon. Julia Too showed a liking for similarly bottomless conditions when winning a Carlisle bumper in February and she merits consideration on her first run over timber, while Bollin Dolly has questions to answer following her disappointing effort at Perth.

Eyre Apparent is sure to have plenty of supporters having hacked up on similarly testing ground at Perth last time, but SADDLE PACK edges the vote in receipt of lumps of weight. He improved throughout last term and showed a liking for this venue when recording win and placed efforts here in March and April respectively. Gavroche Gaugain is a capable performer when his jumping holds up but is likely to find conditions softer than ideal this afternoon.

Lucinda Russell is doubly represented this handicap hurdle and, while both have genuine form claims, DELIGHTFULLY edges the vote. The C&D winner has been dropped 1lb for what was a creditable performance on similar ground here over the extended 2m in May and she has solid claims with trip and ground ideal today. Her stablemate Stormion boasts winning form over this trip and he is respected but Saddlers Mot is feared most. She will relish underfoot conditions.

GREEN FLAG has been off the track since finishing runner-up in a bumper here in April, but Lucinda Russell's charge had previously scored in a similar race on his NH debut and is likely to have been well prepared for his hurdles debut here. Seriously is another interesting contender. He is likely to fare better than when a well-beaten sixth in a Stratford bumper on his racecourse debut. The 102-rated Farm Pixie is another to take seriously.

It could pay to side with the sole C&D winner PANTHERS RUN. The veteran displayed plenty of zest when a solid third over further here last time and he is expected to relish these testing conditions. He is also on a fair mark. Mysterious World won't be without his supporters despite having failed to justify favouritism at Uttoxeter latest, while Sammy Spiderman arrives fresh from a break and he completes the shortlist.

Connections of TAXI DES OBEAUX will have taken plenty of encouragement from his Wetherby debut over this trip in June and the son of Maresca Sorrento is entitled to have improved for the experience. He coped well enough with the heavy ground on that occasion and can make the most of the weight he receives from the C&D winner and Perth runner-up Absolutely Bygones. Point-to-point winner The Friary makes most appeal of the others.
