OUR JOEY is taken to make a winning debut over timber. He has improved in each of his three bumper appearances at Perth, winning the last two, and looks the sort who can progress again now sent hurdling. Deise Dynamo's point-to-point second at Tallow in February looks fairly strong with the winner Dotties Dilema winning both NH starts since bought into the Lucinda Russell stable. He warrants plenty of respect on his first outing under Rules, while One For Hocky and Rocking Blues add further spice to the opener.

SYDNEY PAGET has looked a high-class performer from day one and he is strongly fancied to make a winning debut over fences. Barring a lacklustre performance at Haydock in April, where he simply didn't get the run of the race, he was a model of consistency both in the odd bumper and over hurdles last term and has always given the impression that he would find another gear when sent chasing. On Broadway is another who looks sure to improve for the switch to fences and a stamina-sapping trip on bottomless ground is just what he wants, while Our Island cannot be ruled out on his return to action.

Lie Forrit made a winning return to action over 2m7f at this track last year (Blenheim Brook just over two lengths back in second) and another big run is expected this afternoon, while Across The Bay was last seen finishing third behind Big Buck's in the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree and warrants respect on his first chase start in England. The vote, however, goes to SUPER ALLY, who sneaks in at the foot of these weights. His record here is very impressive (won four of six visits) and Timmy Murphy will have spent plenty of time in the sauna to make sure he keeps the ride.

HUNTERS BELT appeared to benefit from the application of a visor (worn again today) when scoring comfortably over this trip at Perth last time and a 9lb rise may not be enough to stop him if he can reproduce that level of performance. Leith Walk lines up off the same mark as when beaten a nose at Hexham in May and, having run well fresh on a number of occasions in the past, she must enter calculations now returning. Rupert Bear is worthy of consideration in light of his impressive 12-length success at Hexham in the spring.

It could pay to side with hurdling debutant JUMBO SUPREME. He has already displayed a fair level of ability by winning a point-to-point event in March (possibly would have followed up a month later but for falling at the last) and Donald McCain is sure to have him fairly revved up for this debut under Rules. Last-time-out winners Ryton Runner and Teerie Express both have claims, while Vuvuzela rates a lively outsider having run well for a long way on his seasonal/hurdling debut at Sedgefield 18 days ago.

ANGEL SUN is taken to cause something of a surprise result. He only found the progressive Mwaleshi (who has won again since) too good when returning over hurdles here earlier in the month and Ferdy Murphy is sure to have done plenty of intensive schooling work with the six-year-old prior to this first run over the larger obstacles. Overafrica has displayed a fair level of ability in five starts over hurdles but he represents an owner who always looks to buy chasing types. Whilst he is expected to improve for the switch to fences, William Money has already shaped with promise in two chase starts and is difficult to dismiss.

A few look to have chances in the finale so DUNDOCK receives what is only a tentative vote. He has been hammering on the door in similar contests recently and teams up with one of the more accomplished jockeys here in Tony Kelly. Scriptwriter has looked a rejuvenated character on his last couple of outings and should mount a bold bid providing the ground doesn't prove too testing for him, while Dickie Henderhoop, Vallani and Some Lad are others to throw into the mix.
