Not much strength to this sprint nursery but MOUNT MCLEOD took a major step in the right direction when an arguably unlucky second at Nottingham last time and providing that wasn't a one-off, she could be able to overcome a 2lb rise in the ratings. Finalist doesn't look too badly handicapped judged on her Kempton third in June but she subsequently finished last of seven back on turf later that month and clearly has questions to answer following a 115-day lay-off. First Rebellion is battle hardened and hasn't been disgraced in two starts since his Chepstow win in August.

STEEL CITY BOY hasn't hit the target since May but the assessor has given him some respite as a result and his latest fourth in a 17-runner Nottingham handicap left the impression he was on the verge of a resurgence. The fact he 'won' the race on his side from a high draw last time also adds weight to his claims. Porthgwidden Beach is well worth a look back over the minimum, especially if the money arrives, while Cliffords Reprieve and Canadian Danehill complete the shortlist.

POYLE PUNCH isn't ideally treated by the conditions of the race but Ralph Beckett's lightly-raced gelding backed up his Kempton maiden win with a respectable fifth at Newmarket and the ground was possibly softer that ideal at HQ. He hasn't been sighted since June but is entitled to have improved again and looks to have been found a fair opportunity on his return. Safari Team won a Lingfield seller in good style last month but this demands a bit more. Hugely Exciting is another in good heart who cannot be ignored.

PILGRIMS REST didn't see it out over 1m1f at Goodwood last time but the form of his first two efforts is good enough to go close in this company and the drop to 7f should be in his favour. The obvious danger is Tortoni, who drops back into a maiden after two tries in the nursery division. He steps up to this trip for the first time and it might prove a wise move. The others have plenty to prove, including Awesome Pearl, who was beaten a long way first time out at Newcastle.

Kevin Ryan has had a tremendous season with his juveniles and LOLLINA PAULINA can add to the two-year-old tally having improved plenty on her moderate debut effort to finish second at Leicester. That form hasn't worked out too badly and although a subsequent lay-off tempers enthusiasm slightly, the booking of Paul Hanagan certainly suggests connections mean business. Fine Painting has shown enough to pick up a race of this nature and rates the main threat, ahead of Classic Falcon and Crazy Too.

French import Winning Spark is worth respecting on just his second start for the Gary Moore team but he was too keen at Epsom so might want a slightly shorter trip. With that in mind, preference is for MAGIC MINSTREL, who positively relished the move up to this distance when second here last month and should continue to progress. Our Play and Ultimate Best are also heading in the right direction and neither should be discounted without consideration.

The three-year-old REE'S RASCAL has a decent record here and returned to this track with another solid second over 7f last month. The handicapper keeps nudging him up the ratings following excellent efforts in defeat but the move back to 1m could help him find the necessary improvement to gain a fourth career win. Snow Magic is two from two at the course and had enough in hand last time to suggest his 4lb higher mark will be manageable. Santefisio, Flowing Cape and Red Somerset also feature on a long list of possible players.

TAROOQ missed June and July but made an encouraging return in August and built on that promise when a ready winner over this trip at Lingfield earlier this month. Having also scored here back in May, Richard Fahey's charge clearly enjoys the Polytrack surface and there could be more success to come, despite the 6lb extra tonight. Byrony is also carrying a 6lb penalty following her recent Goodwood triumph and it was hard not to be impressed by the manner of that win. Majestic Dream is another accorded the utmost respect.
