A promising hurdling bow makes KING OF REDFIELD the one to beat in the opener. Touched off by the shortest of margins over 2m at Roscommon, he will have learnt plenty from that experience and the presence of Ruby Walsh in the saddle can only inspire further confidence. Altnadua and What An Act were around eight length apart when third and fourth respectively latest, but the latter was making his racecourse debut and could close the gap here. They are short-list material, along with Flat winners Pigeon Flight and Lupita who are having their first runs over timber.

Bumper winner MUDSLINGER got the better of Conquistadores to open his hurdling account last month and is likely to have more in the tank. The latter has subsequently scored comfortably but may have to play second fiddle to Paul Nolan's useful looking sort again. Mr Muffin Man wasn't too far away from following up his maiden success latest and should be thereabouts again, while Plemont Bay (fit from the Flat) is far from out of it on his hurdle return.

An open event and one in which Tony Martin's Stage Manager could finally show us what he is capable of with Ruby Walsh booked to ride. Kingsmaster, a recent maiden winner from Marikana, is up in class but looks a progressive sort and last time out third off a similar mark Bowerman is another for the short-list. Preference, however, is for HAVETOAVIT who ran out a clear winner over fences at Ballinrobe on his most recent outing and won't be inconvenienced by the return to smaller obstacles.

Ansar would take all the beating if anywhere near his best. A Grade 1 chase winner and runner-up at that level over hurdles in October 2005, a recent outing on the flat then over fences will have blown away the cobwebs and he could be too strong for these. Should the selection fail to recapture his top form, the improving Field Commander must be in with a shout as he bids for a four-timer and remains on an upward curve. Serve Time looks the best of the remainder but needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort.

With Hardwick appearing to be getting the hang of the chasing game now and Oily Colman going close off a similar mark a fortnight ago, JOHNNY GONZALEZ is no certainty but he looks the one to beat. An easy winner over this trip at Clonmel in May, he returned from a break to finish a close second over 2m6f last month and this drop in distance is in his favour.

A repeat of YARRA MAGUIRE's second at Naas last November should be good enough in this company and he should be fit from an outing at Galway last month. Western Devil is a dual hurdle winner this term who disappointed on his chasing bow but it would be no surprise to see him go much closer today, while Spes Ultima has hardly set the world alight on his two outings over fences but he is one to consider in this event. Daysent Man looks the most interesting of the newcomers to the chasing game.

There is sure to be plenty of support for chasing debutant Oscar Night who has been in good heart over timber this summer, as well as winning on the Flat, but it could pay to take him on with ANOTHER NOTICE. The 6-y-o has been knocking hard on the door since switching to chasing, making the frame three times in four starts, and looks the safest bet. Maxi made a decent start to his chasing career when fifth here last month and should know more about it now.

Articulation's silver medal in a similar event at Galway gives him obvious claims but he is still searching for his opening chase success and may find one too good again in the shape of TOMORROW'S DREAM. The latter just failed on the Flat at Wexford last month and showed ability in four chase starts last season. Home Force has filled the runner-up berth on his last three starts and should be in the shake-up again.
