AP McCoy has already ridden a winner for Tim Easterby here this season and it looks significant the champion has been booked for FAVOURS BRAVE. He has had his last five starts at this track, winning over 2m1f on his penultimate outing, and arguably produced another career best when second to Claude Carter last time. Faith Jicaro is less exposed and merits great respect following her Hereford near-miss, while the returning Valley Lad is worth a second glance in the betting market.

DUBAI CREST was running well in defeat earlier in the year and sneaks in here under a lovely racing weight. Rated only 4lb higher than for his previous handicap hurdle victory, he has ground conditions to suit and should also get a strong pace to aim at. Paul Bohan claims 10lb off the top weight Local Hero but Steve Gollings' charge will do well to confirm Summer Hurdle superiority over runner-up Kian's Delight, who has since scored in fine style at Perth. Sud Pacifique and Smalib Monterg are others to consider.

THE DISENGAGER would have gone close in a similar race at Newton Abbot recently had he winged the last fence but a blunder there meant he had to settle for fourth. He has gone up 4lb in the weights for his troubles but could still have lots more to offer and looks worth another chance. Rebel Du Maquis can figure prominently despite a hefty burden, while Bobowen and Quite The Man makes most appeal of those towards the other end of the weights.

Plenty of interesting chasing debutants, not least MY MATE VINNIE, who improved markedly for the fitting of a tongue-tie when romping home by 15 lengths in a novices' handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter last Sunday. He remarkably gets to compete off the identical rating on his fencing bow today so has lots going for him if his jumping is up to scratch. The Big Freeze and Misstree Pitcher also look likely players on their first attempts in this code, with Irish challenger One Fine Morning arguably the pick of those with chasing experience to draw upon.

15:55 Market Rasen (Class 2) (3YO only)

Hilali and HALOGEN are fancied to battle it out, with marginal preference for the latter. He scored by 10 lengths on his NH bow over this C&D in June and really impressed with the way he went about his business when following up at Bangor last month. Decent ground clearly suits the son of Halling and he can continue to make hay while the sun shines. Hilali comfortably beat subsequent dual winner Indepub at Stratford and commands great respect. Fontwell winner King's Wharf completes the shortlist.

THE ROMFORD PELE is the obvious starting point as he takes to timber for the first time in public. Rebecca Curtis' charge showed high-class form in four NH Flat outings last term, signing off with a fine seventh to Champagne Fever in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, and he'll take all the beating if his jumping passes the test. Worcester winner Porgy and French Flat recruit Amok could put up most resistance.

7

17:05 Market Rasen (Class 6) (4YO to 6YO)

Connolly's Red Mills Bumper Challenge (Conditonal/Amateur Standard NH Flat Race)

SPIRIT OF SHANKLY built on his Kempton debut effort to win in fine style at Stratford back in March and although the form could have worked out better, he's held in high regard and is fancied to defy a winner's penalty on his return to competitive action this afternoon. John Ferguson is adept at introducing smart newcomers and the well-bred Zarafshan looks an obvious contender to go well at the first time of asking. Bowie is improving with experience and is a feasible alternative to the aforementioned duo.
