Mark Johnston won this maiden 12 months ago with Muhadathat and launches a two-pronged assault this time courtesy of Ortano and KATEBIRD. The latter would appear to be his best chance of a winner, with jockey bookings confirming that, and the daughter of Dark Angel ran well for second behind the well-touted Queen Kindly at Catterick eight days ago. She looks progressive and has been found a real opening against these rivals. The market should tell us more about Liquid on his introduction.

IMPULSIVE AMERICAN arrives in the middle of a purple patch and readily beat the reopposing Aldreth, last year's winner, over 1m6f here last week. David Pipe's charge has been handed a 7lb hike in the handicap but that might not be enough to halt this improving four-year-old and he can go in again. Pontefract winner Almost Gemini has to be given a chance and Sweet Selection, who sluiced up at Nottingham when last sighted, also has claims.

A typically competitive sprint handicap and many of these have crossed paths many times over the years. OLIVIA FALLOW ran a superb race here last month, and deserves to enter the winners enclosure once more for Paul Midgley. She has been dropped 1lb since that effort and with Joe Doyle's 3lb claim taken into account this time, she effectively races off a 4lb lower mark. The four-year-old can get the better of Shipyard, who is an admirable performer at this level and was unlucky not to claim victory at Haydock. That pair are fancied to fight it out, just ahead of Barnet Fair, who should relish the likely quick conditions, and Antony Brittain's Stanghow.

Another competitive renewal of this extremely valuable handicap, where likely favourite Kimberella looks sure to be popular following his narrow defeat in the Dash at Epsom last week. He gave plenty of ground away at the start that day but that did save him from chasing a quick pace and he is likely to be a short enough price in a race as wide open as this one. Duke Of Firenze was only a place behind Kimberella a week ago but he had a clean shot at that race and he is 5lb higher in the ratings today. THESME was a progressive sprinter last season and she bounced back from a poor run on soft ground in a Listed race to finish a close third to Duke Of Firenze and the useful Brando at York last month. She is clearly at her best when the ground is fast and she is still comparatively unexposed. Others worthy of consideration are Red Baron, Robot Boy, Secretinthepark and See The Sun.

CATALAN comes into this a lightly-raced individual having won her maiden well last time at Redcar, and an opening mark of 78 seems fair for the daughter of Duke Of Marmalade. Lil Sophella loves fast ground having won over C&D on similar ground last September, and again at York's Dante meeting, and looks a threat only carrying an extra 3lb here. Home Cummins has been given a chance by the handicapper and has Adam McNamara claiming 7lb.

Most of these have a question mark against their name for one reason or another but the consistent BLUE JACKET is an exception. She has proved a most reliable inmate for the Dianne Sayer yard, goes extremely well for Emma Sayer (two wins) and scored on her penultimate start over C&D on the forecast ground. Amy Blair has shown little to date but is one of the few open to progress and a market move would be interesting, whilst Atreus has gone well the last twice over course and distance, suggesting that he has a decent shout here.

Kenneth Slack was a success story of the 2015-16 jumps campaign with a remarkable strike rate of 33% with his small string. He's 2-8 too in the current Flat season and has seemingly transformed TONTO'S SPIRIT, who put a string of uninspiring efforts behind him when causing a 33-1 shock on his second run for the yard at Cartmel. The gelding runs off the bottom perch and rates a decent prospect if replicating his improvement on the Flat. Neuf Des Coeurs and Fillydelphia are respected.
