Top Othe Ra boasts some solid form both over hurdles and, particularly, in bumpers but this is a big ask following 1166 days away from the racecourse, so a chance is taken on CRIMINATE. Henry De Bromhead's charge is certainly bred to have plenty of ability, being a half-brother to Grade 1-winning hurdler Abbyssial, and wasn't without promise on his debut in the bumper on this card 12 months ago. He is expected to have improved a fair bit since and can mount a bold bid on his hurdling bow. Venezia and Belclare Boy are others to keep an eye on.

OLD CASTLETOWN is blatantly well handicapped in this sphere (rated 119 over the larger obstacles) and, quickly bounced out following his head defeat at Fairyhouse on Saturday, he is officially 4lb well-in. Ruby Walsh is expected to make plenty of use of this strong stayer and he could take some pegging back. There didn't appear to be any fluke about The Jazz Singer's 20-1 handicap debut success at Navan and he can put up another good showing, while Kiera Royale and Buonarotti Boy complete the shortlist.

ST STEPHENS GREEN has done little wrong during his short career to date and won a lot easier than the one-length margin suggests at Killarney last time. However, his second to subsequent Betfred Ebor winner Heartbreak City at Galway the time before is the single stand out piece of form on offer and he will prove extremely difficult to beat if repeating that effort. Baby Jake is just 1lb higher than when placed at Navan and should give another good account off his light weight, while Cassells Rock wouldn't be without a chance if finding top gear.

Lieutenant Colonel is a dual Grade 1 winner over hurdles and put in a polished round of jumping when scoring gamely on his seasonal reappearance in this sphere at Gowran recently. He is entitled to improve and must enter calculations, but THREE STARS edges the vote. There was a lot to like about the way he brushed aside useful types Ball D'arc and Inis Meain in a beginners chase at Listowel last month and this race was the target immediately after - noteworthy considering Sizing Europe and Loosen My Load are past winners for Henry De Bromhead. 150-rated hurdler Gwencily Berbas certainly has the scope to jump a fence and is worth a market check at the very least ahead of his chasing/seasonal debut.

Smashing is a very likeable sort and best treated at these weights, but the ground is a lot faster than ideal, there must be stamina concerns on his first try beyond 2m5f and he has a 194-day absence to overcome, so this might be the day to take him on. The one who appeals most is LORD SCOUNDREL. He would have gone very close to supplementing his Galway Plate success in the Kerry National had he not crashed out two from home and, providing that nasty experience hasn't dented his confidence, he looks sure to be in the firing line again. Last season's Munster National hero Sadler's Risk adds further spice to the race.

A number of these appear to have chances, so MOSS GROVE receives what can only be a tentative vote. The bottom-weight defied odds of 20-1 when brushing aside subsequent winner Willow Grange at Ballinrobe last month and talented 3lb claimer Richard Harding needs no introduction having shone brightly at the Cheltenham Festival on more than one occasion. Not For You and Shake It Up are partnered by two of the most recognisable amateur jockeys in the game and they both warrant respect, while first-time blinkered Castle Fall's is unlikely to be far away either.

A number of the top trainers and top amateur jockeys are on show in this bumper full of newcomers and the betting market is likely to prove a good guide. Gordon Elliott and Jamie Codd team up with Westland Row and he must come into the reckoning, while it would come as no surprise to see Joseph O'Brien's Basilisk involved at the finish either. However, the one who makes most appeal is UP THE TOWN. Noel Meade's representatives are always feared by the bookmakers in this sphere and the in-form handler interestingly won this race in 2007, 2012 and 2015.
